Yeah, this is objectively and subjectively wrong on every level. Its a ####ing masterpiece.
Tell me one made since then that surpasses it for consistently funny moments from start to finish.
Maybe it’s just me. Like I said, I’m a Will Ferrell fan. But two grown men acting like 8 year olds and calling each other poopy head was just …I don’t know …lame.
Really felt like they just went for the lowest of the low humour. Far from consistently funny, that’s for sure.

It's hard to be Superbad as one of the best coming of age comedies ever made. My brother graduated high school in the 90's, I graduated in '01, my nephew graduated in 2010, and the movie related so well to all of us
Dazed and Confused maybe beats it although I suppose it depends on what era you grew up.

The other guys is another level compared to step brothers. Step brothers had zero rewatchability imo.
I find the Other Guys just okay. Mark Wahlberg being cool only has so much mileage. Whereas, Step Brothers is like Dumb and Dumber for me, where each scene stands alone as hilarious. I can jump into either movie at any point and watch any scene and it's still hilarious.

Dazed and Confused doesn't have the same exploration of the friends moving on from each other like Superbad does. Also, someone pointed this out for me, and now I can't stop thinking about it. But a huge amount of the plot in Dazed and Confused is driven by Ben Affleck being obsessively out to get the younger students, which doesn't make much sense.

never considered his role a big part of the movie. just one of the many moving parts.
and it does make sense for the time. When I was growning up, a few guys did have an insane over the top need to drive around froshing/hazing the younger kids.

I had consumed an edible before my last viewing, so my perception may have been skewed.

The kids in Dazed and Confused were heading into their senior year so there was no moving on, just making summer plans and looking forward to next year.
And hazing used to be so bad, I remember being terrified heading into freshie week.

We mostly had to worry about random eggings walking home. I few kids with older siblings were bigger targets and got it worse. I presume this isn't a thing anymore.
Step Brothers plays like a series of small funny vignettes, which works really well for 'jumping in'. Other Guys plays better as a cohesive movie, which IMO is better in terms of being rewatchable. In the second viewing I became much more aware of the secondary characters, and how well fleshed out they were, especially Micheal Keaton.
And wasn't Walberg a huge loser in that movie, who found his zen directing traffic?

I don't know what I'm even talking about. Changing all of my votes to Get Him to the Greek. Keeps getting better with each watch.

My "comedy" friend and I watched both together for the first time and enjoyed each immensely.
Different movies, both a great time.
Step Brothers has a classic feel because its kind of its own thing, not much in terms of movies out there that shares its premise. The Other Guys plays on the buddy cop thing which has been done a million times. Does it brilliantly but its less distinguishable.
Not many comedies come close to the laugh count of SB. The Other Guys has some amazing gags that really elevate it though.
