Taking the LRT downtown to play video games at one of the three arcades along 7th/8th ave. One of which had a massive pinball game that used a billiards ball as the pinball.

Wow, they would give you 18% interest on a short term deposit back then.
There was one year (I think it was in the late 70's) where the Federal Government would give you 20% on a maximum deposit of $20.000. from your RRSP, for both husband and wife, for one year.

I'm more and more convinced that the article from the Ottawa Citizen was the same one I remembered. The entry for Peter's Drive-In and MacKay's Ice Cream in the Best Hamburger/Best Ice Cream categories definitely triggered some synapses (I have a good memory when they are food-related. Something I'm still teased about today). Also, I recall Calgary winning best Airport.

The old crappy Safeway in Marda Loop, I think there is a huge condo complex there now.
When I was a student, i can remember not having enough money at the till and being told that was OK. This happened more than once.
Also, can anyone tell me if the curry/Indian restaurent is still in Mac Hall. It was next to DQ, if IRC. I used to buy rice from him all semester, and during exams he would always put on some curry, "you can't study on rice alone". Think he was also a math prof.
"Rock hard at the Yard", the bar at the Highlander hotel on 16th avenue. they actually had regular prices for most beers but you could cheap out and pay about 50 cents less and go with Black Label, i belive it was? needless to say for a guy who didnt have much money, it was a black label night

hmmm not sure if its the same place but i did the same thing, at kobe beef. $1.10 per plate.
