I just loved seeing Jon Cooper's smug-stunned face...dunno what it is about him...the arrogance maybe?

Yeah, I certainly don't believe that about myself. Confidence in an opinion isn't the same thing as arrogance. When I'm wrong I can admit it. Arrogance doesn't allow for that.

You clearly missed the intention with that. I'm holding myself accountable for a clearly wrong expectation for this series and then adding some commentary on those thoughts. Other people kept bringing me up, so what am I supposed to do? The intention was a mea culpa, not self-aggrandization.

Less talk about me, more talk about the epic choke-job by the Lightning.

I feel like the Lightning decided trolling people like me (convinced they were going to win the Cup) would be more satisfying than winning the cup. They were winning at a rate in the regular season we haven't seen in this league in a long time and looked as sure a thing as we have seen in ages. I can understand losing in a 7 game grueling series or even maybe 6 games but to get swept by the 8th seed is something I still can't fully comprehend as it just doesn't make sense.

I don't think anyone needs to eat crow over this one. Who legitimately thought the Bolts would be swept? 1/100 people?

Only the naturally contrarian would likely have predicted this and that would be, naturally, just to go against the grain.

Turn on any sports broadcast right now. No one saw this coming. Let alone in this fashion.

Put the crow in the fridge. Save it for another meal.

The alternative pucklines for the BJs were amazing! Not just to win but to beat the Lightning by 2 or 3 goals.

You would be surprised. The general public will have flooded the Lightning with a large volume of small wagers while the smaller population of long-term positive players will have hit the Blue Jackets with four-figure wagers each.

The lines were so unrealistically skewed in the Lightning's favour that the price for the Blue Jackets presented outstanding expected value for those who routinely seek long-term positive expected value.

It does if you properly factor into consideration the competition. One of the reasons I was pretty confident that CBJ was not simply going to roll over in this series is because they are a really good team with balance, depth and excellent goaltending. It didn't matter much that they finished in 8th place, and I think had Tampa played Montreal or Carolina that they would still be playing.

There is no mystery here. The outcome is surprising to those who neglected to see how much better a team Columbus is than their record. They were a dangerous draw in the first round because all year they have looked like there was more to give.

Once playoff Bob started playing like regular season Bob, all bets were off. They are a loaded team.

i am starting to feel like CBJ is a lot like the Kings team that won the cup as an 8th seed.

To me this win underscores two points about the playoffs:
1. Get in and you have a chance as there is a comlete reset
2. it can be really hard to win in the playoffs due to players will to win

Regular season wins.

TBL - 62
CGY - 50
BOS - 49
NYI, WSH - 48
CLB, NSH, WPG - 47
CAR, SJS, TOR - 46
STL - 45
PIT - 44
DAL, VGK - 43
COL - 38

Atkinson put up 41g, they added Duchene, Panarin needs no introduction, and Dubois was comfortably handling the top line C role prior to the deadline putting up 60points.

On top of all that Bobrovski registered 9 shutouts this year.

I get that the sweep was surprising, but this is far from “the most shocking upset ever”. The lightning are clearly a well built team as well, so I thought the series would go the distance. But if you thought Tampa was going to sweep them maybe you should stop talking about that, because you clearly weren’t paying attention.

First overall hasn't been swept in the first round since the 30s...it's more than just a little surprising... considering the sweep it probably is the biggest upset of all time.

Tampa had a 74% chance of winning before the series began.

Columbus with a 1 in 4 chance, is that really a huge upset?

Not so much the fact that CBJ won the series, but that they swept it...

That can't be true.

I read right here that Columbus had a less than a 1 in 292,201,338 chance of winning.

Not gonna lie, the guy crying at 1:13 was me at the Dome when the Flames beat Detroit in Gm 6 in the '04 run. The earlier victory against the Nucks was special too but that celebration was in the living room at home so not quite the same emotion.

First #1 overall swept since the 30s not to mention the historic regular season. First ever in a best of 7 I think.

It's a massive upset

The sweep is a massive upset, the win not so much.
