I really like Monahan with Mangiapane and Dube.
IMO the best comparable for Monahan has always been Jeff Carter and that line combination really reminds me of the Toffoli - Carter - Pearson line that had success in LA

Did Monahan look faster last night? I have often thought that he looks faster and MUCH more engaged when he is carrying the puck more frequently, which is why I have in the past thought that he might do better away from Gaudreau. He sure looked good last night.

That line seems like a good match of styles

He hasn’t always succeeded and he’s certainly been underproducing, but Sutter cares a lot more about the defensive zone than posters here, who focus mostly on the other end. So he’s obviously going to like Monahan’s effort there.

Yes, he clearly complimented Monahan's game.
So therefore he wants Gaudreau off the team??

Playoff series should cement it. I can't wait for the crying when a team that only has to shut down two players to win a series starts playing those two clowns like every other player in the league. Sorry no free passes to the net if he gets a step.

I understand what point McDavid was trying to make... but it really comes across poorly. Instead, he managed to make a celebration of life for a former teammate and friend about himself and how life is unfair to him.

Who said that?
You said that anyone seeing Sutters comments as meaning anything negative to Gaudreau was Francis level. It was obvious to me and others than Sutters comments were intentional, and he was indicating he is unhappy with Gaudreau’s play. I don’t think that means he necessarily wants him off the team.

i was texting back and forth with one of my buddies last night that is a HUGE oilers fan.
i laughed out loud when he sent this:
the oliers are a piece or 2 away from being a cup contender.
i replied:
at each position? and to clarify i mean is right wing, center, left wing, right d, left d and goal... then yea... i agree.
he didn't like that - ha! ha!

The Oilers want a two way street. If they had won, they would have won for him after being inspired by the memorial. But they lost, played like trash and suddenly its an excuse.
I mean I hate to be callous, but it was a nice memorial service and then they had to go and do a job, if this is how they do it, it just shows that the team is mentally weak.

McDavid is a whiner
The media should pick up on the narrative that he is pretty much diving and crying all game the second a player doesn’t just let him score. He is literally constantly flopping and complaining to the refs the entire game every time he plays

The 2 posts I quoted said Gaudreau will be off the team and that Sutter doesn't like fancy plays and that Sutter likes Monahan over Gaudreau.
The implication was that Sutter didn't like Gaudreau's game because he liked Monahan's game and can't like those 2 things at once.
This is a very odd implication and definitely not how an NHL coach assesses his players.
He can like both players, or neither, or one and not the other.

When Sutter inquired about the lineup issues I thought was brilliant! It took any pressure off the team, dampened any initial plans the oilers had coming out of the gate. It also make it clear Sutter's intention to win the game.

Obviously he is a terrible person. He knew Colby Cave and didn't use it as an excuse to mail it in.

We all know what the story lines would have been if the Oilers managed to win the game last night. How they resiliently came together after the Cave memorial and won in honor of his memory.

They'll do that anyway the next time they win. I am sure not being able to create that narrative last night is what was really eating him and the Edmonton media. The beat writers probably had their stories written before the game started praising the Oilers for their perseverance.
Not really related but I recall how when Matt Stajan lost his son, the team played Minnesota that night, but obviously the Flames are just heartless jerks. They actually won 5 of their next 6.
The Emerson Goal is still a bit a tear jerker for me.

I consumed that Gaskal report like a box of rich truffles. One section at a time over the entire day. Fine vintage Gaskal.
The league has to be happy that their show dog is a mop face that prefers to pee in doors. There there Conner, we’ll just get some paper towels for your wee wee and tears. Who’s a good boy?!!!

With the new lines, I got caught last night thinking "Man look at Monahan skate out there, this is new legs. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen him move like this."
Then I realized it was Ritchie (24) not Monahan.
And I got sad.
But a win's a win against the Oil, nice to see the Flames just not totally sucking at everything. Not sure how that change occurs, but it beats losing.

I found myself thinking the same thing about Monahan all game, but unlike you I was definitely not mistaking Ritchie for him.
I thought Monahan played a terrific game.

Talking about Monahan, quote from Sutter today:
@WesGilbertson: #Flames coach Darryl Sutter with a nice compliment today for centre Sean Monahan: “His work ethic has been right at the top of our team, which is really important and which I think is lacking in the group.”

Motivation tactics from the bench boss.
Sean probably has been hard working. But having that media darling gets players working to get seen in a similar light.
There's a reason Johnny doesn't get props. He can bring more.
