Default Connecting Flight

I couldn't seem to find anything on this but sorry if this is a double question. I'm flying on one airline with a connection in Dallas-FW then off to Iceland. When I land do I have to gather my bags or clear security again or can I just continue on to my next gate? Still a travel rookie here who always does direct vs. connections. My time is about an hour 20 between flights so I'm trying to figure out what will be needed for the least amount of stress.

Are you flying from the US first or Canada?

Was it booked as one flight? Or two separate bookings? Thats usually the determination for me and I haven't been wrong yet (outside of some weird Canada to USA flights).

Assuming you are flying out of Calgary, and booked as a single ticket/interary you will pre-clear US customs here and so your bags should be checked right through to iceland - even if you change airlines (i.e. AA to FI)

It looks like Thor's recruiting trip to Calgary was successful in finding another sub.

Daddy needs to work on disciplining his subs to book more efficient flights.

Going from Calgary to Dallas to Iceland, your baggage should be checked right through. Mine was when I connected through Dallas to Ecuador.

I'm still trying to understand why someone would connect through DFW to go to Iceland?

Price? That's all I got versus Edmonton, Seattle, Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto which all have flights with Icelandair.

You really enjoy the airplane experience? Want a free feel up by the vaunted TSA? Really like the Tex Mex in the food court?

It was purely price based. Although if the chance for a good TSA agent is there....

And Amethyst, did you have to go through security again or just straight to your next gate?

If you have really nice side burns you may get complimented on them after they fondle your balls. It gets kind of awkward after that.

They technically should go all the way to Iceland, but some airports and some airlines in the states make you pick up your bags and check them again, especially when coming from Canada. Most recently, my wife had to do that a year ago in Chicago. I also needed to do this in Newark around a year ago as well. So just check with the airline before travelling to avoid any surprises.

I flew Vancouver through Newark to Portugal and had to recheck bags and go through security in Newark. Customs was done before boarding in Van. There was a terminal transfer at the airport and it was a bit of a trek but relatively easy.

Don't quote me on it, but every time you enter a new country at the first entry point you have to get your bags and go through customs and then re-checkin, even if it is the same airline.

At Newark this is a bit of a stretch.

That place might be the dirtiest, most unorganized pile of trash of an airport on the planet.

No, you clear customs but they don't all make you collect your bags. I've flown through London a couple times and have to clear security a second time but no luggage. Same coming back to Canada, my bags get checked through to destination.

Yes I would agree on that. I never got lost though and had time to kill so it felt easy.
