I can only guess what you would want to run in the winter. Probably between 40-46 in the front and 16-20 in the rear depending on how strong of a cyclist you are. People for sure do ride fixies/single speed in winter, but might require swapping out every once in a while to figure what suits you best.
The three-way intersection of 8 Ave and 11 St SW is a death trap for cyclists. I've almost been hit, I've almost hit someone, and just about every day I see a car turn north (right) onto 11th and cut off a cyclist, who are also turning right.
I've never really noticed or paid attention to other downtown intersections, but this one seems very poorly designed.
I finished up Zwift Academy this morning with a group ride. 9232 people enrolled and 1131 graduated (so far). To graduate you had to complete 5 group rides, 8 workouts and 2 races within the month or so. For every 10 people who graduate, Dimension Data donated a bike to Qhubeka.
It was a fun challenge. I'd never really done any formal workouts on the trainer and I've definitely never raced before. It's definitely going to change up how I ride over the winter.
And I hit 8600km on the year!
Is anyone else on Strava Premium? Being able to set goals and seeing how you're progressing is a great motivator.

Took the new shoe covers out for 60km around the Reservoir. The verdict is they're great, nicely snug around the shoes but I still need to wear better than summer socks in 0C weather...
I highly recommend Defeet Woolie Boolie socks, they are expensive but I have two pair of these. I use them in this type of weather, I haven't used my summer socks for a month.
In and out. I was planning on doing the loop, but it was 91km to just get to romulus and I was exhausted from the 12km in, it took a long time. I didn't think I would have time to do the rest of the 35km of the loop in the morning and still get back to Calgary at a reasonable time, but I probably could have. Didn't realize how downhill it is back to Calgary.
Next time I will drive to little elbow and do the loop because that is the best part. Cycling out there on the highway kinda sucks until highway 66, so i'd rather be away from the cars for a longer period of time.

My wife and I were getting more and more in into trail riding this year. Picked up a couple upgrades at the end of year rental fleet sales in Canmore/Banff. She picked up a 2017 Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt, and I picked up a 2016 Norco Fluid FS1. Hoping to get a few more days in this season. Oh and it brings our fleet to 8.... whoops!
