All of a sudden, Genie cleans things up combined with her opponent falling apart and Genie takes the opening set 6-4. Bouchard won 12 of the last 13 points to take the 1st set.

I don't know if Genie will win this match, but she certainly is showing some nice resolve. The old Genie would fold up the tent after getting broken this many times.

Genie will play Daria Gavrilova in round 2 who upset the #24 seed Yastremska.

Tough result from Felix as he loses in straight sets. I wonder if hes just not going to be a threat on clay in his career and will be a contender on hard courts and grass only.

I don't know NF, Felix was making the finals of clay tournaments last year, so I don't think the surface is the issue. He just has no confidence at the moment, his serve continues to be hit-and-miss, his backhand isn't good currently and his match tactics aren't great either. I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but if his current coaches can't help Felix figure things out, maybe it's time for a coaching change.

It's so strange to me that he's struggling with confidence when he looked awesome at the US Open before losing to eventual winner Thiem. This is a tight turn around and in normal years he would of had more practice on clay so hopefully it's just that but I agree Felix needs a high profile coach to take him over the top. I wonder what Becker is doing, maybe Andy Murray will move into coaching and he can work with Felix.

Just my opinion, but Felix was average at the US Open. He had to go four tough sets to beat the journeyman Monteiro in the opening round (although Monteiro likely played the match of his life), then had two easy matches against a broken down Andy Murray and the young French kid Moutet. The match against Thiem really exposed the current flaws in Felix's game.

I wish for better coaching for all the teams and players I cheer for at the moment...but yes, all Felix has to do is look over to his buddy Shapo and the strides he's made with Youzhny in his corner. just a year ago there were claims in this thread that he had topped out somehow, and today he's Wertheim's dark horse pick for semifinalist.
Felix could be an all surface Djoker-lite with an atomic serve. but it's time he started going into rallies with a plan about how to push his opponent back, instead of just hoping his hard groundstrokes generate sufficient errors and floaters to take the rally.

It's too bad, he got off to a good start and he was the actually the favorite against the American.

Speaking of Moutet, he just lost 18-16 in the fifth.

Leylah is underway on TSN4 and comes back from 15-40 down to hold serve in the opening game.

Not exactly a great set of tennis from Leylah as Linette wins it 6-1.
Edit: Leylah starts set 2 with a break of serve after taking an extended break during the first and second set. Gamesmenship?

Leylah serving for set 2 at 5-2 - She has employed the drop set with great success in this second set.
Edit: Going to a third set - Let's go Leylah.
