I think Elias Lindholm is the best forward on the team.
He has Gaudreau's point totals, Monahan's goal totals, Backlund's defensive awareness, plus he's one of the most consistent forwards on the team.

Not to mention, he's durable and has a good contract.

For me it comes from the rumors he has interest in playing here. Top UFA’s rarely have Calgary on their list of preferred destinations. Bouwmeester is really the only guy I can think of who was the prize of free agency and the Flames won the sweepstakes. I also think Hall will take a decent contract due to the cap crunch and desire to play in the playoffs. I could see a contract in the 8-9M range and not the 10+ being thrown out there.

I don't believe there's a hot take in here yet, other than Hall should not have won the Hart. Which isn't even all that hot IMO, but it's a take for sure.

Here are mine. Treliving is a bottom third GM in the league who gets a lot of slack because he is so different than what we have had, gives a good interview and has created the persona of a guy who is working all the time.

Gaudreau more interested in being here long term than Tkachuk.

Monahan is the player benefiting most from this break.

Monahan is a number 1 center always has been. Only issue this year has been a set back while trying to evolve his 200ft game. Still manages to put up 30 goals or get close in a covid shortened season.

Sam Bennett is criminally misused in Calgary.

Elias Lindholm is the real center piece of this team.

David Rittich isn't the answer in net.

The NYR take a big hit on the Shattenkirk buy-out next season and have a big hole at #2 centre. In a piece of magic, Treliving pulls a trade of Backlund and Kylington for Kravstov, Lias Andersson and taking on one year of Brenden Smith. (yes, I understand that Backlund has trade protection for one more year)

My Hot Take is that the Calgary centre position looks like this under a new coach :
Monahan
Dube
Bennett
Ryan
: and they stay in those spots for the entire year. And are more stable and productive than the centre core was this year.

One day the love fest around him will end.. he will be 35 and some fans will still think he can breakout. A player with low hockey IQ and who takes dumb penalties all the time.

A player who looked to be finding his game, and was really effective as the third line centre, playing with Dube for two weeks while Ryan was injured. And then immediately demoted and punished with 8 minutes a game playing the wing with Jankowski. I wonder if this is some kind of psychological experiment designed to see if they can take a heart and soul player and completely erase his love for the game.

Sam Bennett takes over as second-line center and has a 60-point season.

Hot Takes:
If the Flames would convert Mark Jankowski to defence he would blossom into a left handed Brent Burns!

Sam Bennett's is too obsessed with trying to be like Cal Clutterbuck that it's ruining his career. Rather than trying to improve his weaknesses, he just grew a mustache and just runs around trying to hit everything.

Gaudreau has peaked. At least in Calgary.

Wow that sure is a nice hot take. I predict that Bennett never plays another game with the team after this season.

Wasn't there a rumour this year that he asked to be traded? I kinda thought he might be gone by the deadline this year because of that.I'm a fan-he looked like he was coming in to his own when he was put at 3rd line center, but that didn't last long.

Flames hire Babcock as next head coach; forced to fire him before the end of the season for bullying players. Ward named as interim head coach.
