Facebook - Meta - Account Hacked?
I believe my facebook account was compromised. I can no longer log in with the previous phone number and emails I used. When I enter my username I am asked to send a recovery code to an email address I don’t know.
I can’t figure out how to recover account when my own text number and emails are no longer recognized.
I emailed facebook security- would appreciate any advice.

"Note: If the email associated with your Facebook account has changed, you can reverse this. When an email is changed, we send a message to the previous email account with a special link. You can click this link to reverse the email change and secure your account."
Did you get that email?

Thanks - that’s not working. My number and email no longer associated with account. Facebook wants to send code to the stranger’s email.

I think Photon is saying you should have received an email when the thief changed it to his email address. Check old emails and your spam folders for that email from Facebook and you should have the link.

Nothing came like that. My account is old and original email address probably does not exist. My cell # is not connected to account since hack too.

Ah, ya that might be a problem then. Hopefully support gets back to you.

Yeah if you don't have access to the original email address on the account then things might be tough. Hopefully they can revert the phone # to get access back.

Oh yeah, if you have no email or phone connection to the account, it's gone.

I think it can get restored eventually, but I hear it takes up to 45 days for them to respond. 160,000 accounts get hacked every day.
Facebook/Meta does not have phone support. Why not? Apple does.
Maybe my IT people can help.
I tried calling a third party tech support (geek services) but it seemed really dodgy. They said they could fix it.

You pay Apple for their services, and potentially will stop spending thousands of dollars on hardware if they suck.
Zuck will miss out on ~$45/year if you aren't seeing his ads. They'd probably blow that much on the costs for one average support phone call for this kind of stuff.

Problem is many of my apps were connected to Facebook for log-in.

I don't think I use Facebook, but I do use Google for some site logins, I guess I should change that for any I care about.

It's just a worse version of much better apps and the few people still active there use it to spam friends and family with garbage.
In this day and age Facebook should be among the easiest losses to stomach.
In fact, I'd say it's a gain - of time to use on literally anything else.

Stick a fork in it Jerry. It’s done. No email and no phone mean that even if they cared (they don’t) they have no way to effectively ID you. I’d worry about the person using it for identity theft (lots of things use Facebook as a sign up), so cancel your credit cards, and get some sort of fraud monitoring.
I’m sorry this happened to you. Good luck!

Facebook/Instagram customer service is non-existent.
A few years ago, I was looking after the Instagram account for a friend's business and one day, the account was gone. No explanation, no way to get it back. When I tried to log in to it, I got a message the account was banned and deleted. I tried contacting their customer service and am still waiting for the first response from them... that was 2016 or 2017.
Horrible company... but, hey, make sure you sign up for Threads.

They do have a form where you can submit ID.
