I would take Gallant in a heartbeat. Why does Vegas make this move?

I think the flames should but I could see them staying the course with Ward, if his record since the change wasn't as strong as it is i think its a easy decision.

If you had been told, when the Flames made their last coaching hire in 2018, that you had the choice between Gallant and Geoff Ward, the decision would have been an easy one.

You haven’t been following this team very long, have you?

Congrats to him on his upcoming stint in San Jose, and to Geoff Ward on his 3 year extension after almost making the playoffs.

It just occurred to me that this is probably the "copy the Stanley Cup champion" thing that NHL teams love to do. "St. Louis fired their coach mid-season and won the cup, so we can too" has to be the main reasoning here...

Also maybe noteworthy that Babcock hasn't been an option for several teams now that have replaced their coach since he was fired by the Leafs. Wasn't long ago there was a bidding war for his services. I expect teams are going to want to wait until the offseason at least to see if the smoke has cleared around him.

Or it could be a "I spent half a billion dollars and we were so close to a cup and now we're spinning our wheels and I'm impatient because we should be better than we are" move from ownership.

It's called assessing your team and making the changes you think are necessary to go the distance when you're in your winning window. It's not waiting until the end of the year to fire gulutzan or running with an interim coach for 3 months to see what happens

If Treliving doesn't make every effort to hire Gallant then he needs to be the next to go. I'm tired of waiting until the offseason to make any big decisions

I'm really surprised by this. Gallant seems to have a really short leash wherever he goes. Always gets results though, maybe could be a good hire for the Flames

You think Shero is an upgrade on BT? Lol. I strongly disagree there, Shero is terrible.

Yeah I don't need to convince you, but BT should be running out of road soon. The Flames haven't really done any damage his whole time as GM here.

The Flames have to make a move. They can't afford to let Treliving sit on his hands until the playoffs are over.

This is where it's a bit tricky for BT right now I think.

Since November 29th when Geoff Ward was named interim head coach the team is 13-6-1 which is the 4th best point percentage in the league.

So do you remove Ward from the spot which is pretty harsh for him and might shake up a locker room that has played quite well under him.

Or do you go out and get a guy that has a better, and proven pedigree as a top NHL coach.

Personally I think I would do it for Gallant as I think that's the better long term decision but get that it's maybe not that simple based on how the team has played. Initially I wanted them to do it for Laviolette but my stance there has softened too since I think he's more of a shelf life coach.

If there is a real great GM out there then I'd agree but Shero isn't that guy. I want nothing to do with him.
