It's also kinda weird because I think DeBoer underachieved with San Jose's roster, who by the way are Vegas' biggest rivals.

I never would have pegged Deboer as a guy you need to rush and sign mid-season, replacing Gallant of all people.

It is pretty amazing how he came in with the expectations that it would be a rough first couple of years. He then exceeds expectations and gets them to the Stanley Cup finals and expectations completely shift. Now he has his team 1 point away from 2nd place in the division and he gets fired.

2 points out of first in the division...this is an odd move.

How many coaches have been fired this year? How many coaches of teams in playoff positions?

I think this was more about McCrimmon wanting Deboer than being displeased with Gallant. I mean sure, Vegas isn't where most people thought they'd be at this point in the season. But the pacific is kinda of an S show this year.

With the other coaching vacancies that are becoming available, he went and got his guy. Still a bit weird that an All-star coach is fired so close to the all-star game.

I would like to see Gallant coaching the Flames but I don't see Treliving making a move until the offseason and the way things are going with all the coaching moves he may not be available by then.

I could see Yzerman moving quickly.

Gallant did great with a younger, mismash roster in Vegas.

Gallant played 9 seasons in the NHL in Detroit, all of them with Yzerman.

He might not want to go to a rebuilding team but if they have faith that they will build the core together for the long haul then that's something I could see.

I love it. Vegas just massively downgraded, this was a big mistake. Gallant took the Isle Of Misfit Toys to the final in their first year, he is a brilliant coach. DeBoer also got to a finals but with a stacked Sharks club. Given how stacked many of those Shark rosters were over his tenure I think he didn't really do well there. I like it.

C'mon Treliving, upgrade your coaching position please. Gallant would be a huge get if they can.

This is the first move Vegas has made in their history that I truly scratch my head at.

Crazy news, they don't mess around in Vegas.

But after suffering thru Greg Gilbert and Glen Gulutzan, we Flames fans deserve Gallant to finally get the good GG.

3rd time's a charm right!

Wouldn't Gallant make perfect sense for Seattle? Who better to be the head coach of that franchise for their inaugural season?

No man, their expansion draft selections left everyone scratching their heads but it worked.

They do the weird thing all the time and it seems to work out for them.

He would but I imagine he will have offers before then to coach.

I actually think they should can Treliving and go after Shero/Gallant/Laviolette.

Full front office overhaul, then move the core if they want to.
