Someone (here, I think) told me they were going to widen the 22x overpass over McLeod this summer. Is that true? When is that starting?

They aren't widening it, but rather cramming 2 lanes each way onto the existing bridge. Should be starting soon.

This was the original plan for MacLeod; which has since been shelved apparently:

Reasons why they are going with a Clover Leaf:
- It isn't a true Clover Leaf as the MacLeod Trail (MT) portion has it's own side roads for access, so MacLeod stays a free-flow.
- This is somewhat temporary; when/if the SW Ring Road is done there will be further upgrades. This keeps the cost down.
- Traffic patterns. The Province believes that when there is a major flow in 1 direction (ie- EB 22X onto NB MT will be at a different time than SB MT onto EB 22X.)
A few other notes:
- The 2 new bridges are to be constructed to the north of the current bridges. (light green on map.)
- The traffic lights at 6th street stay; will be upgraded as part of SW RR.
- Construction is to (hopefully) start Summer/ Fall 2012 and be done by Fall 2014.

So that's why you thought you recalled something about it starting in the summer- it was supposed to start last summer. That post of mine is almost 2 years old.

I thought I bitched about it here a few months ago, and then someone said they were putting two extra lanes, and that work was going to start soon. Then the flood happened, so I figured it got bumped down the priority list.
Two extra lanes will make a world of difference to E/W traffic, but now I'm wondering how NB-WB traffic is going to turn.

Not sure. I think the plan is to just get the most they can out of it at the moment, as neither MacLeod nor 22X there is built to any kind of decent standard. Then they're just going to pray SW Stoney gets the go ahead sometime this century, at which point there will be money to fix everything.

MUCH less backup this morning, I don't know if the light timing was changed, or if everyone just went a different route.

I don't think the timing at the lights at 52nd changed any, I think most people just thought better of it.

Lights on the east side were needed 10 years ago. Not sure what too so long there.
Also, given how quickly the speed limit is going to have to drop from 100 to 80 (probably 70 given the new lights), I predict this spot will become a profitable cash cow for the CPS.

Unfortunately, that's not what happens when you add more capacity.

There will be noticeably less truck traffic which is always good, a north-south bypass to get through the city, and an alternate route for commuters will exist when Deerfoot snarls. These will be true regardless of induced demand or whatever other factors you're talking about.

removing a concrete median and repainting lines is innovative?
Anyway, the SB-WB ramp at Stoney & 17th Ave SE is now open, and it looks like the other remaining ramps are ready to open.
I hope they don't close down the section between 17th and Peigan again, it's cut down my commute time!

With the SB 17th Ave. SE ramp open it eliminated all of the traffic sitting at Peigan and 52nd. I didn't even have to wait for the light pulled up it was green sailed right on through.
