I agree but they do it very well with MacLeod, especially for the morning commute. High traffic volume priority.

17th Ave SE overpass opening Aug 2, 2013
(This release just came out, after the other one, but according to signs in the area, and the summer 2013 update, I already knew it was happening.)
So, yes, the first use of new mainline asphalt will be between 17th and Peigan, starting tomorrow, for two weeks. Then it will close again until Oct 1, when the whole thing opens.

And if you want to be technical- 114th has been open for a while now.
I am pretty excited about 52nd opening. Hopefully this will help with some of the north-south traffic issues.

So, in summary, changes to the 17th Ave/Stoney interchange starting tomorrow are basically this:
Starting tomorrow, 17th Ave will essentially become a flyover of Stoney with no connection to it. Stoney will be open all the way south to Peigan to allow for another detour other than 16th Ave NE.
On August 14th the access ramps from 17th Ave will be completed and will open, and Stoney between 17th and Peigan will again close for a month and a half, as the alternative detour won't be as badly needed, and they can do the finishing touches on that section of road.

OK, I obviously don't know what the term "mainline" means. I thought it meant other than the temporary roads that have been put into place.

Thneed, what finishing touches do you think are left for mainline between Pegian and 17th that requires it to again close for 6 weeks? I haven't been over there in a while. The new detour is the most convoluted one of the project so far, and then just when people are thinking Stoney is at least open up to Peigan now, they nuke it again. Aahhh.
The amount of money they've spent building/planning to maintain full access to everything with detours, even accesses that aren't going to exist in the final design, is insane..
Hopefully they've got the whole crew out directing people tomorrow, because it took me a minute to wrap my head around it even with the press release and detour map right in front of me, and who besides us looks at the press releases and detour maps?

Okay, maybe someone can calrify this for me as I'm losing track of all these south east Calgary roads and whether they access ST or not.
Today I can drive from 16th AVE NW onto Stoney Trail north.
As of August 1st 2013 I can reach 17th ave.
Can any of the below be reached?
Peigan Trail?
Glenmore Trail?
114th Ave?
130th Ave?
22x/Marquis of Lorne?

As of tomorrow Stoney will be open down to Peigan Trail. None of the others can be reached yet; and you might as well take 130 Ave off your list because no interchange is being built there.
The main lanes of Stoney are essentially done and paved from 17 Ave SE all the way around to MacLeod Trail, but Glenmore and Peigan Trails only recently were transferred onto their bridges so the connections to the ramps need to be finished. The 88 St/22X and Deerfoot interchanges have paving, earthworks, lighting, etc... lots to do. Those 2 interchanges will be done dang near on the last day, makes sense as they are the most complex of the project.
Could they open the section between 17 Ave SE and 114 Ave SE early? Probably. But it's just easier to do it all in one go.

I'm guessing the 22x/Macleod interchange will be done as part of the west ring road ( in 30 years)

130th Ave is graded for a future interchange, just as 60th St NE, 11th St NE, and 14th St NW are.

Looking at the advisory again, the EB 17th to NB Stoney ramp will be open. That will help somewhat. So WB 17th will not access onto Stoney, but EB Stoney will have access in both directions.

Yes I see that, but I meant it's not opening on October 1st.

I have no idea why. They don't need interchanges at both 114 and 130.
