So with only two stores to start in Calgary, online sales likely the easier route. Anyone know if those are a go on the 17th? Only thing that scares me about online purchases is I’m assuming you are going to have to enter your drivers license number. Anyway the US will be able to see if you purchased online?

If you use a credit card and the data is stored on a US based server, which I’ve read it is for most Canadian credit cards, US law enforcement could conceivably subpoena those records.

However the information you enter on the website is secure and confidential. Your payment method may not be.

Alberta and Ontario have contracted out online ordering, but require the contractor to store the data only in Canada. Ontario won’t collect date of birth information through the ordering process, verifying age through an ID check at delivery instead.

Wednesday’s Statistics Canada report indicates that Canadians have in fact been smoking more weed than the government has been able to track. Wednesday’s numbers are the first being released from the new National Cannabis Survey, an attempt to provide more timely and accurate data on Canadians’ cannabis use.

So ya, it was from a survey, probably underestimating. Anyway, my point was they sure are doing everything they can to botch it. Or maybe the strategy here is to force online purchases so they get more profit. But with Canada Post threatening to strike, that may not work so well either. Which means on legalization day Terry's phone is going to ringing off the hook.

Its funny, a lot of the people I've spoken to are thinking legalization day is going to turn into a low-budget 'Purge' film.

I initially considered that just crazy 'Old White Man' thinking, but you always wonder. It does seem like thats not going to be the case but likely just because of lack of supply.

Or maybe people are just going to get rip-roaring stoned on whatever they've got handy and it does turn into some sort of Apocalyptic wasteland.

I dont know. I was of the belief that anyone that wanted to use marijuana was more or less doing it already so I dont see legalization day unraveling as some sort of drug-addled free for all.

Jeff Mooij said he might have to enlist the help of city police to sell pot when he opens one of Calgary’s first two cannabis stores the day marijuana becomes legal in Canada.

That means there’s sure to be a historic green rush at the shop in the Southland Crossing strip mall, said Mooij.

“It’s going to be crazy, a lineup all day long — I might have to have police directing traffic,” said Mooij, who heads up Four20 Premium Market.

“It’s so amazing — I’m opening up a store on the first day of legalization.”

The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) announced Thursday that 17 stores will open across the province on Oct. 17.

Mooij said he’s ordered $420,000 worth of marijuana and oils from as many as 15 licensed suppliers to stock the 4,000-square-foot store.

“That’s $1 million worth of retail . . . anything available we took,” he said.

“We won’t run out in the first week, but I hope we do.”

This article does say they expect to have 250 stores across the province by the end of the year.

So I think we will see a bunch start popping up after Oct 17th.

After Oct. 17, AGLC anticipates a steady increase in the number of operational stores across the province, predicting there will be about 250 stores in business by the end of December.

Anecdotal evidence I know, but the Terry's I talk to assume they will be going out of business shortly... they don't have plans to compete with the legal operations. Just my experience.

LOL, and the Terry's I talk to are considering selling weed to the people lined up at the "dispensaries".

Eventually Terry will be out of business. I agree. But until Canada goes the way of Colorado, and you can buy just about anything (and high quality) in a dispensary, I will keep Terry around for my distillates and edibles.

Crazy talk I know, but the LP cannabis is expensive garbage compared to Mr Terry. They are still in the learning curve phase of pot IMO.

The most ambitious Terry I know is changing their business model by selling seeds and cuttings (probably under the table) for people interested in growing and gardening cannabis. They are taking cannabis horticulture courses, looking to turn this into an opportunity I suppose.

Man you'd think someone would have had some foresight to open up a cannabis store in the New Horizons mall.

I haven't followed it that closely, but with the hundreds of applications, I would have thought more than 2 stores in Calgary would be ready for opening day (insert lame joke about lazy stoners).
