My only complaint with Apple maps, which speaks volumes for what a great job Google has done with their product, is that it is highly intolerant to typos. You misspell by one letter the Apple product will either not find it or find the wrong one. Google Maps however is intelligent enough to find a location like it or offer suggestions and actually put in your current location into consideration.

Usually for me when Apple maps finds the wrong thing it is because it wasn't entered exactly, which sucks as sometimes I'm not sure exactly how to spell the address. If I have the address spelt right, it has found it all the time for me.

I think about 50% of the times I've tested out Apple maps since I upgraded, some sort of mistake was made. The routes being wrong or longer than necessary is pretty common. Finding places by searching for the name, rather than the actual address, is a mess. It's annoying that I'll have to be checking the directions twice or more every time now if I'm going somewhere unfamiliar.

I wish Google would release a third-party Maps app for iOS already seeing as how iOS Chrome is 1000x better than the pre-installed version of Safari.

iOS Chrome is Safari - exact same browser engine.

Why would you possibly want to bank with someone who Apple obviously doesn't see fit enough to even put them on a map. If Apple doesn't think I should know about something then obviously I will not care about it. That is what a good little sheep fan boi does right?

Always sound advice to have a paper map backup. Electronic devices die, take you to the wrong place, etc. Being able to read a map properly is a skill which everyone should have so that when the GPS spits out a location in the middle of a mountain range, you can quickly surmise that perhaps your GPS is out to lunch that day.

I always take paper maps with me when I go to visit new locations on holidays. The TomTom app on my phone is pretty awesome but it's not perfect that's for sure.

BUT - yes, Apple maps suck.

^Great thing about the Nexus 7 is being able to download google maps areas onto your device. If you know you're going somewhere, just save that area onto the device - no need to have any connection to anything to use it.

I guess the device itself could somehow just stop working, but that seems like a relatively remote risk.

Do you just mean the offline map storage? Without a data connection it won't calculate the routes, even if you have maps downloaded from Google. Unless that is something really new that was introduced.

I tried to do that when I went to the states and didn't want to get charged roaming, and it didn't work out, although I at least had the maps around Glacier National Park and Spokane.

One of the more recent Android updates supports it I think.

I believe you can save maps and routes, but once you're offline you can't get new directions or search for places. So it's not a total replacement for having data access, but it's still a cool feature.

Try banks that show up on Apple Maps, not ones that have dorsal fins on their business cards.

I'm in a mean mood today, it's not you.

Wrong. Everything except maps on the iphone is amazing. I would be much happier if I had no maps app than one that doesn't work.

Google maps > Apple maps. Using the browser version of google maps simply isn't a realistic alternative. It's terrible in fact. I won't update my phone until I can download a copy of a google maps app.

Who would have thought mapping every place in the world and how to get there would be so hard?

lol, it's not like Apple is out there in a boat discovering the world.

No one forced Apple to replace a product with their inferior version either. It was a stupid move, so stupid we've seen shake ups at the executive level because of it.
