Without Kent Wilson and Darren Haynes, the price is unjustifiable. And I only paid half that last year before they were let go.

I'd wager they aren't doing so hot... especially given this steep of a discount lol.
Our concerns are likely echo'd by more fan bases then maybe we'd like to think.

If content picked up I'd likely subscribe again because I enjoy supporting good content creators but not doing it when you can continue to get better Flames content on this board

Yeah, Haynes is definitely missed. Duha is always great, but him and Cruikshank are not really worth it if you're mostly just interested in Flames-centric coverage like me (outside of Down Goes Brown). Personally I cancelled my subscription...they have till February, when it runs out, to change my mind.

Those ads are misleading. If I remember, when I looked into it you pay that for the first 3 months, but then it goes up quite a bit and you're on the hook for the year. I ended up getting a $36 or yearly subscription which was far less for the year.

Maybe they've changed it again though, this was like 3 weeks ago.

I've noticed the disparity in the amount of content between Edmonton and Calgary. Edmonton seems to have 1 or 2 new articles daily.

I won't cancel though. Love Pronman, Dom, Burnside, etc. There is enough NHL content to keep me occupied. I just wish there was more stuff to read about the Flames.

If you send them an email they will refund you. They are pretty solid about that stuff.

Lots of interesting tidbits about the early Flames ownership and how it was the wild west in terms of rules and contracts.

Interesting! I heard they chose Edmonton because of the new rink. If the Dome was built 5 years earlier, maybe he would have been a Flame.

I've been an Athletic subscriber for a year, I like it. I'm prob not going to renew as my favourite Saints writer went rogue and started his own site which is top notch, but otherwise I'd stick. If there was a good deal offered, I may renew.

There has been some good Flames content in the last few days. Cruickshank has a couple nice reads just today including an in-depth look at trading, or not, Gaudreau and another that evaluates the team's drafting going back 40 years.

And now Cruickshank is apparently gone. Tweeted that today was his last day. By my count that leaves 0 Calgary writers. Duhatschek is the closest thing but he's really a national writer who does occasional Calgary content. No shortage of Leafs and Oiler articles though.

I just cancelled my subscription (I still have another 10m), but not enough Flames content for me.

Him, Haynes, and a few other select individuals should just start a local subscription service. I would pay $20/yr for good local content.

There's really unfortunately no big reason for a Flames fan to be subscribed anymore.

I feel terrible for the writers who have been let go over the last couple years, but it's hard to justify paying anything from my perspective unless you follow other leagues and teams.

Subscription based news sites have little chance of surviving, IMO the Athletic will be gone soon if they don't go free with ads like most others.
