You better get more than a first for Marner

Rebuild over after 1 draft?
It's going to take some time to get this turned around.

I highly doubt Marner is accepting a trade to the Flames, no matter what else is in the package.
But if he did waive I think the package I think would be closest would be something like:
Kadri/Markstrom + Andersson for Marner + Liljegren
Pretty much close to flat cap in either of those scenarios.

Pure speculation but I think Mathews is suffering from Norovirus as there appears to be a significant outbreak in Toronto.

I have had this before and let me tell you, it's not remotely fun. The level of fluid and food that leaves your body in a violent fashion is jaw dropping. You wonder if your going to make it and wonder where all this fluid and solid food is coming from because you haven't consumed it.
If you are not on top of your electrolytes and hydration, it can lead to hospitalization and more. Pure speculation but I can see the Dr's pulling him for fear of a cardiac event due to physical demands and stress on the body.

Has he tried Brawndo? I heard it's got what plants crave.

Sharks missed the playoffs 6 times in their first 27 seasons without the sweetheart expansion draft rules. Flames missed 15 times in the same era.
This is the first rebuild they've ever had.

Mitch is at what 10.5 million heading into free agency at the end of next year, and is probably going to want a hefty raise. Is he really the player that you want to bank on to get you a mega return on a huge contract? I know I don't, at the end of the day, he's great in the regular season, a secondary guy in the playoffs, and your going to end up eating a chunk of his contract to move him.

Sure, $5.415 cap retained, traded 2/3 of the way through the season, and all Marner's money comes from signing bonuses. He makes league minimum salary. Teams would be interested, although it's just an academic argument since I doubt he'd waive for the Flames.
I'd buy a 1st for $7.25M.

Draft picks have been traded for money in the NBA, mostly 2nd round picks.
Not sure if its allowed in the NHL.

Indirectly. Pay the signing bonus knowing you’re going nowhere, then ship off a good player to a team who’s willing to give up the pick.

Maybe undiagnosed but if he has a diagnosed case of Norovirus I doubt he would have been around the team as that is highly contagious and could easily take out additional players.

All day. You trade a guy who wants to be part of the solution and worth more than a 1st on his own and a goalie that can also fetch a 1st on his own for a player you are going to flip for a 1st? That would be an epic way to sewer this franchise.

The offer was Huberdeau and Weegar for Marner. No goalies.

Oh don’tcha know he’s worth at least Mercer and a 1st, market value! Nobody will offer that cause they aren’t dumb enough, but that’s what he’s worth!
