Canucks protect both of Baertschi and Granlund. They would have been exposed if still Flames.

Second, they still have no goalie prospects.
Right now (and assuming they sign Johnson, or an equivalent backup), the Flames' goaltending depth is:
Smith
Johnson
Gillies
Rittich
Parsons (maybe the best goalie prospect on the planet)
MacDonald
They will have Gillies and (likely) Rittich playing in the AHL, and they will (likely) have Parsons playing in the ECHL.
Vegas has nothing like that, and won't for at least 3 years.
Unless... they trade a couple of the guys you listed for prospects. How about a post expansion trade of Grubrauer for Gillies - would both teams do that? Vegas will need some prospects for their organizational depth.
|
They likely not keep all of them but they may keep Fleury or Mrzaek plus a crap load of picks.

There are some good players exposed but not of significant value, the Canadian teams have not been good for the last 3-4 years, so not surprising.

Surprised to see Luongo was not protected. Then I saw that he's under contract until 2021/22
Those last few years are cheap (compared to the cap hit) so he might be valuable for a budget team wanting to hit the floor... future starter in Arizona?

Sucks to be Joe Colborne when Blake Comeau is protected and you're not.

The funny thing with the Islanders is that, Vegas can get the 1st round pick and De Haan.

Who I'd take for Vegas (I have no idea about contract status or cap hits for the majority of these players, so not sure if this list meets those requirements. Also this assumes no deals to protect certain players, which we know will happen). I didn't use the tool that sureloss just posted.

Dumb question but does LV have to take a player from each team?

Further proof that in general top 4 dmen are worth more than 2nd/3rd line forwards

I'm not.
Imagine the Preds trying to pick who to expose out of Ekholm, Subban, Josi, and Ellis

Any team that acquires Luongo shares in the cap recapture penalties that VAN and FLA face if he retires early do they not? I'm not 100% sure on that but if they do then it's extremely unlikely Luongo ever moves again

I would think older players like Joe Thornton would be of no interest unless another NHL team approaches Vegas with a trade offer...
Vegas I would think will also draft a mix of older and young players

Just doing a quick run through of that tool and I think they end up with something like these 5 goalies (to do with what they please): Fleury, Raanta, Pickard, Korpisalo & Broissoit (don't see much appeal from the Oiler list).
This is assuming Arizona has a deal to protect Domingue

Yes. But as soon as a player is picked, Vegas could trade player back to their original team.

I don't believe that VGK has their own AHL affiliate. They will likely need to loan players to other AHL teams to find places for them this year and maybe next year as well.
