The Pens are in no position to bargain hard on MAF.

Sure that's what the fans want. Doesn't mean jack squat though.
Bruins fans wanted Johnny + for Hamilton or TJ + Bennett. Didn't mean they got it and it didn't mean the Bruins failed to get value in the deal.

I dont understand the fascination with Grubauer. Playing spot duty on the best regular season team has far too many question marks for me. Seems like a big gamble.
I am hoping for a more proven commodity like Fleury, perfect 2 year stop gap too so we get flexibility to see what we have coming up the track.

You could say the same thing about Talbot when he was with the Rangers or Jones when he was with the Kings.
That's the fascination, people are hoping for the next Jones or Talbot (both of whom Tre was rumored to be in on)

Haha, chill out man, it's fan proposals. Have you read what we think we can get players for on CP? It's always ridiculous. "I'd like to see the Flames pry Malkin out of Piistburgh, but they can **** off if they want Bennett".

I realize there's rumors that he may be bound for Las Vegas but I will stick with MAF until he's no longer an option.

Went with Korpisalo, I think he has a huge upside.
Besides him I think Smith, Fleury and Miller may be the next most solid options.
I have mild interest in Pickard, Neuvirth, Mrazek, Ward, Mason, Johnson, Elliott
Don't really want Halak, Raanta, Bernier or Condon
Haven't seen Grubbauer enough to comment

I like that Grubauer is turning 26 this year, got seasoned on a good team, and fits CliffFletcher's excellent threorem of having played 100+ AHL games. His AHL stats are good, but not as good as Talbot's were. Wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him but would understand why BT wouldn't given how much pressure he's under to fix the goal situation. Wouldn't be opposed to Fleury either, more of a proven commodity and a bridge to Parsons.

How do you know? If he backstops them to a Cup they may very well be in a position to bargain hard.
"Hey GM's, that goalie that just won the Cup? Yeah, he's available. I mean, sure we can sell him to Vegas for a decent price as our last option, but you know, if anyone's interested let us know".

Go with Elliot as the starter and get another high draft pick. Isn't the younger Tkachuck in next year's draft??
All kidding aside, I don't have an idea of who I'd want to start and no one here has any idea of who BT is targeting. I just have faith in the management team to get the best available option. In the past the Flames were rumoured to be interested in Jones, Talbot, Murray and a few others so I think they're targeting the right kinds of players, it's just a matter of landing one. Even getting Elliot last year was the best possible move IMO, they didn't want to mortgage the future to trade for one so they went with the best value, hopefully this year they land a better option.

Mike Smith with a touch of salary retained. Signed for only 2 more years. Solid play behind a bad team.

Wouldn't they just let him go to Vegas for free? I guess that allows them to keep a Dman they likely lose otherwise. Calgary and maybe Philly are the only teams that can add a goalie to their roster pre-expansion draft as they do not have anyone to protect or worth protecting. The market is thin but if they are content losing him for nothing to Vegas (in turn protecting the rest of their roster) that might be all they need?

I can see this based of Treliving history. 35 years old though

In order:
1) Marc-Andre Fleury
2) Jaroslav Halak
3) Ryan Miller
I just don't have any confidence in Elliott after last year.

He is 25-years-old, and has a 0.922 SP in +40 NHL games over the course of the past two seasons. He has a good track record in the AHL and looks like he could be ready to take another step.

Well that's what Cam Talbot and Martin Jones were.
Just goes to show how incredibly lucky the Oilers were with not only McDavid, but also with Talbot.
Talbot could have been a complete bust too, he had a terrible pedigree as the starting goalie for the University of Alabama Huntsville in college!, then struggled in the AHL for a few years before really finding his footing. Even then, lots of goalies put up great AHL numbers but can't do it at the NHL level. Cam Talbot is an incredible storey.
Kinda sucks really. Treliving acquires the goalie with the best statistical numbers over recent years and he goes and ####s the bed. Meanwhile the Oilers throw a magic bean in their goal and he sprouts into a Vezina candidate.

I'd be okay with Smith only if Treliving acquired one of the young goalies too. It can't be Smith and Chad Johnson. It has to be Smith and Grubauer/Pickard/Raanta.

I would get behind either Raanta, or Grubauer. Definitely wouldn't be upset over MAF either.
