He hasn't played for a while so it may take him some time to get back up to regular season speed but he should help on the powerplay immediately.

I will be surprised if he helps out the PP to start. I imagine his timing is off. Versteeg to start the year was a complete turn-over machine on the PP and just looked 'off', and it seemed to take him a while this season to get his game together and become effective on the PP.

I wouldn't put him on the right side on PP1. Hamilton has been more than adequate there. Versteeg wasn't lighting the world on fire when he was healthy this season, and given the length he was out, I don't think he's going to catch his good form from last season right away if at all.
I think the way they have PP1(with Tkachuk healthy) is about as good as it's going to get and they have been getting good looks and pressure lately.
I wouldn't mess with it.

He was? I mean, it was clearly working as the powerplay was top-10.

I think its a huge boost and helps the Flames chances of getting in. He adds a little creativity that the Flames have been missing.

I can't believe Versteeg is only 31, seems like he's been around forever.

He has 2 PPP in his last 14 games before injury. So if the PP was clicking, it wasn't clicking because of him.

I don't think the PP has ever been top-10 this season.

And his give a $hit meter is pretty high, as well as his a$$hole content.

He also brings some swag and that "hate to lose" attitude that we keep hearing about

At the end of November after 24 games it was 21.4%, tenth in the league. Two weeks later we fell down to seventeen at 18.9%. Versteeg did not have many points but I would say his presence made it a little harder for teams to defend our powerplay.

With Versteeg in the opposition had to respect the shot because he would, you know, shoot it. But Hamilton shoots too, and has a better shot.

Versteeg's contribution to the PP was moreso in how he freed up other players, I think. He handled the puck a lot on the man advantage before his injury, even if he didn't end up with much to show for it.

I think Stewart will take Shore's spot for the added size against the Sharks. GG really likes him.
