The premium cable outlet has ordered a 10-episode Dexter limited series that will reunite star Michael C. Hall and original showrunner Clyde Phillips. The show will be a continuation of the original, eight-season series, which ended in 2013 with Hall's Dexter Morgan going on self-imposed exile as a lumberjack and living a solitary life.
Production is scheduled to begin early next year for planned fall 2021 premiere.

Writer and show runner of seasons 1-4 is also back. That’s good.

I hope they just pretend seasons 5-8 never happened.

This is exactly the reason we got that pile of steaming #### that was the finale.

I approve.
The show didn't end strong at all, so it's not like they are messing with perfection here.
In other words, I don't think they can make it worse, and who knows...maybe they'll totally redeem themselves.

Season 4 is one of the greatest seasons of TV ever.
The season with Julia Styles was better than Season 3. The Hanks season was awful, the actress from Chuck season back to okay, and the last season was bad.
I don’t mind the ending of him escaping but the way it was executed was bad and the season in general was the worst of the bunch.
I’m happy to have another season with the original show runner who has 3/4 good seasons.

Out of total coincidence I re-watched the series just recently and I thought the first season was actually stronger than the fourth. However, you just can't beat John Lithgow as a ruthless, patriarchal serial killer.
On the topic, I didn't find season 3 as disappointing as I did when I first watched it. Jimmy Smits' performance was rather good, considering the material.

I'm excited. It's one of my all-time favorite series and I'm hoping in all this time they can come up with a quality story so the show can end on a proper note.

I'm in. Like most of you, I was disappointed by the finale and I have faith that they can at least repair some of the damage with this 10 episode arc, especially with the original show runner coming back.
Let's do this!

First of all, obligatory:
The first half of the original show is some of the most entertaining TV ever.
Just give me something like season 4 in a bubble. No need to spend time tying everything carefully back to season 8 because it was an abomination and better forgotten. Hopefully they approach it like an episodic movie/mini-series and cram all the fun they can think of into it, and not so much the El-Camino approach that is a somewhat unnecessary tack on.
It was left pretty open ended which helps. The show concluded with a whimper which was too bad. Hopefully they rectify that with a banger 10 eps.
