From eliteprospects:

A brutish, big-bodied defenseman that has the size, willingness to give up the body, and physical maturity to make a difference on the ice. Establishes an imposing presence when bearing down on opposing players; does not allow any time or space, and can cause turnovers easily. Has a good eye and is able to make crisp, accurate passes to teammates; also possesses a hard shot. While his skating could be improved, he isn't immobile and can get around the ice post haste. All-in-all, a physical two-way defender who establishes pressure on the opposition and can also provide offensive support. (Curtis Joe, EP 2015)

Does this mean they expect Kylilington to be up in the NHL for a while?

Klimchuk was leapfrogged on the depth chart by other players in the system and likely not getting a QO this offseason.

Nielsen has 2 years left on his ELC including this season and addresses some defensive depth issues going forward.

This is a really solid move. Guy played huge minutes for the Marlies last year in all situations. Good hard nosed D-man. Very happy with this move to be honest.

That's what I would assume with Kylington up with the Flames and Andersson and Valimaki making the big club full time.

Seems like a huge win honestly. Didn’t think we would get anything or re-sign Klimchuk

It seems fitting that the Flames' 1974 4th round pick (Kent Nilsson) finally stops paying dividends (Nilsson-Nieuwendyk-Iginla-Klimchuk-Nielsen) with a player whose last name is Nielsen.

Seems like a solid defensive prospect. Eliteprospects has his weight at 227 lbs.

Stone is out indefinitely, and Valimaki is now week-to-week.

So Kylington and Prout could both be here for a while. And the Heat aren't exactly loaded with depth.

A bit unfortunate the Flames could not get a player out of the 1st round picks they acquired for Iginla and Bouwmeester.

Watched Nielsen play lots here in Lethbridge. A great defenseman, uses his size, and has a blistering shot. Played PPQB alot for the Canes, and was very successful. Wasn't drafted by the Canes, and was a walk-on in training camp. A great story, and glad to watch him closely in the Flames system!
