I hope it was ferland who wanted to triple his salary, it sends a great message. If you price yourself off the team, you end up off the team and have no control over it.

I find it kind of humorous then (if it was Ferland) that he was traded as a piece that brought back two underperforming players, from a team that missed the playoffs, who were reportedly asking for pay raises that Carolina wasn’t interested in paying.
Even though I still agree with Tre.

I really don't think the comments had anything to do with Ferland. If he was asking for triple salary that would be $5.25AAV. For a 20+ goal scorer that's not an unreasonable ask. Probably more than he's worth but the ask isn't outrageous.
Not to mention I highly highly doubt Treliving would take shots at players in other organizations like that. He even said giving up Ferland was the toughest part of the trade.

Probably a bit of hyperbole with the “triple” as well.

I don't really think Hanifin and Lindholm were under performing.
Hanifin is coming off his ELC with some really good numbers as a 21 year old.

I’m a fan of both players and love the return. But they wanted pay raises on an underperforming team, which is exactly what Treliving was complaining about. Just an observation.

Hanifin came off his ELC, I don't even think you can classify that as "asking for a pay raise". In reality he's just due his first "real" contract.

So how much cap room is left to sign the remaining guys?
And do we get $1mm cap releif if we put Brouwerplay in the AHL? If so, I think they'll be able to make it 1 more season before the inevtible buyout.

Explain how Lindholm and Hanifin were underperforming? I don’t agree with this take st all. Hanifin was an all-star and had 10 goals, 32pts as a 20/21 year old. Lindholm has been a consistent .5 ppg player since he entered the league at 18.
I still can’t believe Carolina would trade 2 top 5 picks like that

Yeah, that's probably right. I suppose he could have been exaggerating with the Kulak ask at the top of his thoughts. But that ask was only about double.
Unless Garnet is asking for $2M "hey - I'm a third line guy".

realistically about 5.3m for Hanifin and Hathaway, although they'll want some wiggle room of course.
I believe they'd get a 1m in cap relief yes, but obviously they'd have to fill the roster spot with someone else. So the actual relief would be maybe 100k or so.

Neither can I, but I’ll take it!

What did he make public? A vague general comment that when you don't succeed you shouldn't expect raises? It isn't like he called out specific players or anything.
In my view this is a nothing story.

He didn't make anything "public", this is just a rather vague comment directed at no one in particular.
As for a "precedent"? For what? This doesn't suddenly change negotiating tactics next year. Agents know that, they'd be laughed out of the room if they brought this up.
I think you're worrying for nothing.

Chronology is...
- mostly quiet on arb eligible negotiations
- Kulak goes to arbitration
- all of a sudden Janko and Rittich are signed almost immediately after Kulak
Did word get out that Tre laid waste to Kulak in that meeting? I'm only half joking here.

I think nobody really wants to go to arbitration. If you can, you avoid that ... haggling over a couple 100ks and potentially damaging the relationship by throwing each under the bus probably isn't very tempting. Kulak probably had to in order to get a one-way (at least that's my interpretation) and got it in the end, so good for him. But I doubt it was a fun experience.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Hathaway gets done before Monday, guarantee it. No way Treliving misses the Iginla presser.

Team yeah.
But the owner was essentially challenging the RFA system and what players are worth as comparables more than anything.
This is the guy that let go their "Peter Maher" because he wouldn't take a roll back as well.

I guess he would have been talking about Kulak. That 1.15m number was after he cleared waivers. And Tre was probably rounding up

I dont think so. 1.15 isnt a ridiculous ask especially when the team is lowballing and it's pretty standard to go into an arb hearing a little high. If Tre gets butt hurt over a 1.15 Kulak ask then I would hate to have seen him in the Bouma negotiations.
I think it was just a general statement and not about any 1 player.
