Maybe I am in the minority here but I would pat and continue with what we have. We look pretty damn good thus far. Sitting pretty at #1 and the team is only getting better.

I would take a crack at kuemper from Phoenix. Western Canadian boy with solid numbers. Probably would come cheap

Looking at their forwards, I think Bennett could probably play in their top 6 and produce a lot more than he does on the Flames.

No, they are not.
The Coyotes have between 2–4 games in hand on every team in their Division, and they are five points out of the #3 Pac Div seed. A record of 2-0-1 in their next three games would set them tied in games and points with SJ, but with one more win. Arizona is one of only three teams in the Division with a positive goal-differential, and one of four teams in the Division with an equal-to or better-than 0.500 W/L record.
They appear far behind by virtue of a light schedule, but the Coyotes are right in the thick of it with SJ, Anaheim and VGK for those #2–3 Division spots.

Five goalies who could be traded
Quote:
Sergei Bobrovsky Columbus Blue Jackets Pending UFA at a $7.43 million cap hit. Seems unlikely that the Columbus Blue Jackets would move him. Believed to be looking for a seven-year deal at around $10.5 million. Would the Flyers be interested in bringing Bobrovsky back? May not make sense given Carter Hart could be close.
Matt Murray Pittsburgh Penguins One-year left at $3.75 million. Only 24 years old, has two Stanley Cups but is inconsistent and has dealt with injuries.
Jimmy Howard Detroit Red Wings Pending UFA at $5.3 million. GM Ken Holland could be looking to get a first-round pick before the deadline.
Cam Talbot Edmonton Oilers Pending UFA at a $4.17 million cap hit. Looking like he could use a change of scenery. Mikko Koskinen is getting more starts but the Oilers arent a hurry to trade Talbot.
Craig Anderson Ottawa Senators One-year left at $4.75 million. His contract and the fact that they dont have anyone to replace are reasons hes still in Ottawa. If the Senators retain salary, maybe a contender would be interested as insurance.

I meant so far behind in talent and development, not current standings. I find it hard looking at their roster, to think that they aren't numerous pieces and several years away from contending. The only reason they are hanging in there is because of goaltending, but by the time the rest of their roster catches up, Raanta's contract will likely be up.
It seems a shame to waste his prime years as a plug while they wait to see if their rebuild takes root.

So with Backlund out, the Flames are incredibly weak at center. What's the plan here? Depending on the severity of Backs injury, do we see Tre make a move for a C?

No you don't make a move.
Top line is top line, Put Jankowski in for Backlund, call someone up.

Mix things up a bit and see how it plays out, maybe some new and possibly better chemistry forms and creates more depth.
I can't see this slowing them down much.

No theyre not.
You call someone up and make it work. Every team goes through injuries. Were tops in the Pacific. We have both the time and talent to get through the injury.

Short term centre depth is not a weakness here
Our normal centres are
Monahan
Backlund
Ryan
Jankowski
Without Backlund, we got guys who can play centre
Bennett
Czarnik
Lindholm
We also got guys in the minors who can play it (potentially in a bottom 6 role)
Dube
Lazar
Graovac
Quine

The rumors about Coyle and Niederreiter have resurfaced after the offseason.
https://theathletic.com/702056/2018/...irst-big-test/
Russo says multiple sources have told him the Wild are dangling Coyle with Ottawa, Montreal, and Boston showing some interest.
He also says there is little doubt that Fenton will move Niederreiter.
He cites the Wild's most pressing need as a right shot winger and maybe a center with Koivu out long term.

HNIC:
in the new year Sens will want a firm answer from Duchene if he wants to stay or leave.
Kypreos: Pietrangelo might be available
don't think Blues are shopping him, but teams are calling
one of those teams are Toronto
Kypreos speculates that the Leafs will offer the Blues Zaitsev, a pick, and a faster player in return
LA, Philly, Chicago, Minnesota, Florida, Pittsburgh, Boston seem to be most active teams in trade talks right now
lots of support at BOG meetings for expanded playoffs but Bettman not a fan

Zaitsev is like if the Flames offered Stone. Zaitsev is an awful dman and is on a long term contract that vastly overpays him. Seems like the perfect guy to make as a center piece for a trade for a top 5-10 dman in the World.

Damn I wish Calgary could have grabbed Dylan Strome if we knew he would be traded for peanuts.
If the Flames had Bobrovsky in net I'd feel really alot more comfy and we would be legit contenders imo

It is bad for me to hope that Ferland fizzles out the rest of the year and ends up with around 30 points? Then we can bring him back in the OS for around 2.5-3m

Or the Flames can move on from a player who is clearly streaky if he fizzles out? I think thats a better idea.

If the Flames are looking to add depth at the deadline this year, i would consider a rental on Ferland.

Why not Doughty? Why not Jones? How about Gio?
This is why people hate you Toronto media. It’s ridiculous.
Pietrangelo...
