These are his stats. I think they pretty much sum it up.

Points per game for D-men = T2nd
Goals per game for D-men = 6th
Assists per game for D-men = 4th
Shots per game for D-men= T3rd

Points per game league-wide = T57th
Time on ice per game league-wide = 9th

And a video to demonstrate just a tiny fraction of his awesomeness:

If there every truly was a fricken thread amongst all the fricken threads that deserves its place its this one. Surprised it took this long, so incredibly happy Gio is the captain of this team now. Up there in points per game average with the likes of Karlsson and Keith speaks volumes to how great he's been this year, take the injury away and he flirts with 70+ points i think!

I don't think there is any doubt: if Gio goes uninjured this season he's on team Canada and is in the Norris conversation. Probably wouldn't win in, but he's definitely in the talks.

Glad he's our #1 defenceman.

The fact that a player who plays as many minutes as he does on this team is +11 is really impressive. Him and Brodie have been exceptional in the 2014 calendar year for the Flames.

+11 on a team that is -29 in goals for/against differential.

He and Brodie were a combined +10 against the Oilers. That is ridiculous and awesome.

He's got the heart of a lion. Having a captain like him is one of the reasons we will never, ever be as embarrassingly terrible as the Edmonton LOiLers.

What's the Flames records with him in/out?

I bet we aren't a bottom 5 with him in the line up

He has to be the most improved player in the league this year. I wonder if it's because the Flames decided to anoint him as their number one guy, no longer behind Bouwmeester, Phaneuf, and Regehr. Naming him captain probably helped out as well, whoever recommended that was a genius.

Flames were 4-2-2 when he got hurt. 9-13-4 when he came back.

So without him 5-11-2, with him 24-24-5.

Don't care about the time he missed, I challenge anybody to name 5 more deserving Norris candidates this year.

The usual suspects:
Keith
Suter
Weber
Doughty
Karlsen
Charra

Of those, I could make a case for Gio ahead of Doughty, Suter, Weber and Karlsen. Possibly Charra too.

Regardless, glad he's under contract (at 4.02M) for now. He'd probably get 8pn the open market. Definitely should be paid higher than Subban.

Gio's next point will give him his career best season for points. You think he can do it?

Answer: Zero doubt!

The fact that he's +11 on this team near the end of the season pretty much sums up his play. Absolute gem

Truly unbelievable how much his game has changed in one year. Last season was probably his worst ever then he comes in this year and does a total 180.

What a beast.

I like to think it's because I told him to have a better season.

He's really been great.
