“Gathering Place” sounds like an attempt to create a Jurassic Park.
“Event Center” sounds like a place where Tony Robbins makes people walk through hot coals.

Sounds like you jump to conclusions about a lot of things based on extremely little information.

Wow. Davison throwing down the gauntlet. Says if council votes to delay vote that they will be known as the council that lost the Calgary Flames.
Wooley is trying to delay the vote on the deal until September.

As such, the vote on the deal *could occur on July 29.

It’s 2019. We don’t need lengthy public engagement Woolley. The details are in every Calgarian’s pocket if they want to know them and they know how to reach you or let their thoughts be known.
Make a decision on behalf of the citizens you represent.
We’re not waiting for the monthly newspaper to land on our front step brought by horse and buggy.
Calgarians also don’t need to be given charts of NPV for each line item.

It will be brought up for discussion again on July 29, but I think some Councillors will try to delay the vote again.

Good point.
Agree with topfiverecords -- I really don't see the point in waiting on this. Another month of deliberation isn't going to change anything here. Just get the thing over with, the public already chose these people to vote for them.

I don't think the CalgaryNEXT proposal was ever serious. It was a negotiating ploy. The presentation was basically a Junior High School Science Fair-level project.
Katz had his "Ice District." CalgaryNEXT was CSEC's half-assed attempt knowing full well city council wasn't going to budge on the Victoria Park location.

Demong, Farkas, Farrell, and Woolley were the yes votes. Jones and DCU were not present. All others voted no.

Bold prediction: same four council members will vote no again, but it'll pass.

Being one of five media people to ask questions at the presser is a weird badge of honour.

My therapist says my anger issues stem from my expectations of others... I could never sit as a councilor, I would lose my mind. There are a few councilors that I think are deliberately obtuse, there's no way they could be that ignorant.
The point of the combined meeting was to ask questions, not try and defeat the proposal. As Carra said, 101 level stall/kill tactics, and I'm glad the motion to delay was voted down.
As I read this deal it is a good deal all around and will be a great addition to the city. As stated it is one leg of a three-legged stool. That area will be amazing once complete and will have elements of universal design which I'm a huge proponent of.
I want a new arena cause I'm sick of having to clean piss and feces from the toilet seat in the "accessible stalls" at the 'Dome before I can use them. The one thing I look forward to is a universal washroom with an attendant to make sure some of you troglodytes aren't soiling it up. This is my dream.

Interesting that Woolley was a proponent of CalgaryNext (he was sitting with Ken King at the CalgaryNext reveal press conference) but seems to be dragging his feet now.
