There are still mini donuts at Stampede, look at the food map. These ones aren’t the best mini-donuts. Aren’t they the ones that just have cinnamon and no icing sugar.
The best ones are at the end of the midway that you can get a bucket of. Are they still there I haven’t been this year yet.
Edit: The those little donuts ones might be the good ones as I am looking at pictures.

Wack that they aren't at Stampede.

They have no one to blame but themselves. They didn't get their application papers in on time, and just assumed that the Stampede would hold their spot for them until they got around to applying. It's on them, not the Stampede.

The drinking happened after they were not to be found

ALL ABOARD!
|
Went to the grounds yesterday for the first time in a few years. We used to go every year but nothing seemed to change from year to year so we took a break. All-in-all it felt the same as previous years outside of a few things being moved around.
We went on a some rides with the kids but after seeing a few being shutdown for repairs (people were stuck on them...) we decided not to go on those deathtraps anymore.
It was annoying to see prices covered up on signs with a higher price placed over top. Many of the games used to be lower priced for kids but their prices were increased to match adults. If you're going to gouge on pricing, at least print a new sign so I can't tell.

The family is devastated as they have had that horse for more than a decade. These animals are treated like pets, because they pretty much are. Had they not been racing? Would have been gone years ago.
Its always hard to see animals go down, but it's literally what they were bred to do and what they enjoy most. Thoroughbreds run... and then they want to run some more. These guys allow them to do so for many years after they would otherwise be dead.

I know nothing of horses but you've intrigued me. How does running them in the chucks keep them alive longer?

They don't run races with dog food and glue.

All of the chuck horses are former thoroughbreds that were not good enough to race any longer...for a variety of reasons. Poor performance, injury, illness...lots of variables. When they are not sound enough, they are very few options on what happens next.
Once race horses are no longer able to earn their keep ( and they are very expensive to keep, feed, vets... etc) they will be sold off. If they can no longer run at all, they often go to slaughter again for a variety of different uses. Those that can still get around in decent times are bought by the chuck drivers and become part of what is a very large family of other horses and those that care for them.
I would guess the average chuck teams are at least 12 horses on the wagon plus outrider horses...so 20 a piece? There are probably 40 - 50 chuck teams in Canada...maybe more, so it adds up in a hurry.
I understand many dont like that they are used for "our" entertainment but the truth is, that is the vast vast majority of every horse alive.

Saw it on the screen when i was at the grandstand. It didnt look good at all. I normally dont go to watch, but on this night, I had an eerie feeling something bad was going to happen. Unfortunately it did, they immediately shut off the feed on the screen during the race.
I grew up around farms/ranches as a kid, and I am still conflicted on rodeos/chuckwagons especially after these crashes and deaths.

They're phenomenal. Very talented group.
Their music is almost even finer live than in studio, so if you want to just see great musicians at work they'll be worth checking out.
Their latest albums are a little more of an acquired taste, but between that and their very different earlier albums between the late 90s to 00s, there are songs that any one can get the feels from listening through. Ben Gibbard may be one of the best song writers/lyricists today. Some of his lines are just brilliantly crafteed with thought provoking imagery. On another level from a lot of other mainstreamish indie groups IMO.
