Ad Ruzicka to this list, he is lighting up the OHL as a power centre!

Only kind of kidding...
Logically, you could see them directly replacing guys like:
Dube - Frolik
Phillips - Versteeg
Ruzicka - Ferland

But yeah, the Glass type signings are just prehistoric nonsense.

I think he may have been a ceramic doll BEFORE any injury. Just look at him:

Phillips scored the OT winner for Victoria against the Oil Kings at Rogers Place last night.

Philips looked unimpressive to me at the prospect tourney. Highly doubt he's an NHLer.

I would agree. He looked absolutely phenomenal on the 3 on 3 action, but was not existent 5 on 5. Has time to adjust, but his ability to play among the bit boys when his skill level isn’t vastly superior, did not impress me at that prospects camp.

And that's the difference between him and Johnny. Johnny had similar question marks after being drafted - but once we got a look at him at dev camps - you started to think that maybe there was something there.
For the most part I haven't seen the same thing with Philips.
Still - a great home run swing for where he was picked and it is far better that he continues to excel at his current level than not.
But I don't hold a great deal of optimism that he has an NHL future.

Probably worth mentioning that Johnny played 3 years of college before he suited up for the Flames. I don't think Phillips will be as good, but in terms of development he would be in his sophomore year.

The same thing applies to him as Gaudreau, he needs extra time to develop.

Unless he gets noticeably faster, Phillips is a long shot for the NHL. Great skill when he's got more time, but I've yet to see him do things at the speed Johnny was doing them even as a 20 year old.

I think that is kind of my point. He has all of this year and next to work on his game, size, and skating. He was always going to be a long shot, but if he can get a little bigger and more explosive he will continue to be a legit NHL prospect.
