Name another trilogy besides the SW prequels where the 3rd film is generally regarded as the best of the 3.
Is that supposed to be a nod to how good RotS is? Just because it's a far less smelly turd than the first two movies doesn't change the fact that it is still a turd
As for the question, Toy Story 3, Return of the King, and Bourne Ultimatum
The challenge with this is that they often make a 4th movie because the 3rd was so good. The 3rd movie in a franchise I like more than the others would be:
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Army of Darkness
LotR Return of the King
Toy Story 3
Does Infinity War count as the third entry in the series? What about Thor: Ragnarok? Heck even Civil War is right there with Winter Solider as the best in the trilogy. Marvel is at the very least consistent in terms of quality in movies.
Don't forget Logan as well. By far the best in the trilogy. An easy choice.

I don't think you know what the word "trilogy" means.

Pretty sure I do, there are no trilogies anymore. Toy Story is not a trilogy, neither is Bourne, Indiana Jones, or Evil Dead if they make another. There are very few actual trilogies nowadays. There is always more money to be made down the road. Those all have movies beyond the third, so if any of those are accepted then the definition is rather loose; basically it becomes the third movie in a series of movies.

Like trackercowe said, there are very few true trilogies anymore. I mentioned it in my post as well. The problem with having a great 3rd movie in your trilogy is that studios will make more. LOTR and Army of Darkness are the only true trilogies listed so far. The Hobbit was a completely separate mess in my opinion.
Star Wars could be consider 3 separate trilogies, though information from the original is required to fully understand the subsequent two trilogies.
If Godfather Part 3 wasn't such a downgrade from the previous 2 (I still don't hate it), they would probably have made a 4th. We were supposed to but Puzo died.
The new Planet of the Apes trilogy is up there for me. I loved all three, they work will together and the quality was maintained throughout. Rotten has War for the Planet of the Apes higher than the others.

If you listen to Feige talk, he definitely considers each Marvel series a trilogy. He said when he worked on the original Spider-man series, that if he ever got a chance to make a trilogy, he would want the to be very different from the first two. He cites Iron Man 3, very different in tone and narrative from the first two. Thor: Ragnorok, obviously a strong style alteration. Civil War (Cap 3), a hero mash-up never been done.
He does consider Infinity War to be the 3rd Avengers and it is very different from the first two. Giving the villain the hero's journey, the heroes losing in the end, killing someone of the most popular characters, etc.
I guess there are 2 Wolverine movies before Logan, so it could cont as a trilogy, but the 1st two suck, so we can pretend they arent a thing.

There were only 3 Indiana Jones movies. I don't want to hear otherwise.
A trilogy is a contained story that takes up 3 movies.
A film series is a series of 2 or more movies. The LOTR is the most clearly defined trilogy. Alien 3 was never a trilogy, even when there was only 3 if them. There was never a plan for a contained story. It was just a film series that kept putting out more movies, and at one point had three.
At the end of the month, Boone confirmed that the latest version of the film followed his original vision, and he said that he was happy to promote it as his own film.[47] In January 2020, it was confirmed that the film would be released without any reshoots.[48]
Pretty wild ride. Two and a half years from end of shooting to release. Would have to assume if it's a hit they'll officially include it in the MCU. It seems to be a stand-alone story.
