Flippin Burgers! Generous toppings and great tasting burgers! Will go again!
I used to love, love, love Flippin Burgers, back when the owner was also the one usually working the grill, it was absolutely top notch. Then over time, the quality dropped way down, as the owner never seemed to be around. I finally gave up on them about a year ago. I wonder if now with the pandemic if the owner is the one making the burgers again. Maybe I should give them another chance.

I got the feeling the guy who I saw make and dressed my burger was the owner.

He seemed pretty happy when I told him it was my 2nd time I’ve ever stopped by and he took the time to tell me about the quality of his patties and toppings. 100% beef, never frozen.

He goes heavy on the toppings so when you ask him to put the garlic spread on, watch out, it overpowered the burger for me, but luckily, I was in a garlic mood

We did Flippin two weekends ago and the quality was what I remember from the early days, so perhaps it is just the owner and maybe another staff member cooking again.

Thats good to hear if the quality picked up. By the time I moved out of kensington area (about a year and a bit ago) it was terrible. But was great when we moved in like 3 years before that.

Well after 6 long great years we have had to close our doors. Being shut down due to Covid 19 and difficult landlords we have had to close up permanently. We want to thank everyone who has supported us over the years as we have had a great run and will miss many of you. Here’s to new beginnings. #covid_19 #smallbusiness #lackofgovernmentsupport @cityofcalgary @kensingtonyyc
I think I know which landlords they speak of.

I've heard there's hopes of redeveloping that block to the scale of Lido across the road.

Sad news to report,

The Oak Tree couldn't survive the pandemic and has forever closed its doors.

####. I loved Oak Tree. That will be a big loss.

When I walked by the lounge a few weeks ago there was a note about having changed the locks due to a civil enforcement seizure. Guess that was a sign...

I think the lounge downstairs was a related but separate operation. Upstairs I think the rent is too damn high, and the landlord was not willing to be flexible in the circumstances.

Choked about Oak Tree. Went there last summer with my dog and the staff were amazing with him. Food and drinks were pretty good too.

My hope is for further development on the 9A street corridor. The lots directly south of Pixel just sold and could be developed into another midrise. Add the residential density along there and really try to keep the current structures on 10th. Added bonus if these projects on 9A could add alleyway active units facing west to these commercial properties.

My wife came across something today about a confirmed COVID case for a staffer at the Safeway.

Cotto is doing takeout and delivery (Giuseppe and his wife in the kitchen, delivery by their adult kids) - 30% off wine daily and 50% off on Wednesdays (wine list is sort of hidden on the website - click big text 'dinner drinks' after clicking menu).

The Rustica Pinsa (flatbread) was divine. I think they prefer if you order the day before, but same day might be possible...I'm in no way affiliated - have just had a few nice meals there and chats with the owner

Correct, it's on the Sobey's website and lists that the staff member last worked at the location on the 20th.

I have a very basic understanding of the commercial tenant/landlord relationship, but it is just so strange to me to hear that good businesses like Oaktree are being hung out to dry. In the absence of a better explanation, it just seems bizarre that commercial landlords aren't making some kind of deal to keep tenants alive. It is actually infuriating and makes me want to boycott entire buildings. What am I missing?

Kensington Fitness above Ridley's now closed.

A nice little independent "Average Joe's" kind of fitness place that probably had it rough even before COVID with all the new competition in the area. Been here 20 some years I'm guessing - sad.
