Default HP's 'OS Bowl' flowchart

I can't even imagine all the head shaking that the reporters and bloggers must have been doing during this presentation.

Remember, WebOS is now an HP brand after they bought out Palm and killed the brand.

Bit more here: http://www.9to5mac.com/51405/hp-kill...pad#more-51405

This site is obviously very slanted towards Apple and iOS, but I think Android and Windows Phone 7 are both giving Apple a great challenge right now. The mobile OS platform war has become much more interesting than desktop/laptop OS.

Anyone agree that WebOS is the best mobile OS out there right now, as the picture suggests?

The HP Touchpad looks great. Really good competition for the iPad. A great rendition of WebOS to say the least.

Having owned both a Palm Pre and an Iphone, I would say I perfered WebOS. The big difference being the amount of Apps on the Iphone side.

It does look good. It also has the same cohesion as the iOS lineup, with phones and the tablet both using the same OS.

Too bad there's 10 billion iOS apps already deployed in the wild. If HP had been a bit earlier to the party they'd stand a chance. Now, they'll be forced to compete on price, which means taking shortcuts in hardware quality or support, or some other aspect of the ecosphere they've built. Or maybe they can hope that they end up with the "reverse mac" effect - where their platform has fewer apps, but they all tend to be best of breed and really, really good quality. The kind of boast that Mac users used to make all the time.

I really hope so. There may be 10 billon app downloads, but I wonder what percentage of apps available on the store have more than say 100 downloads. There's so much junk on the app store that you can't look at quantity as a good selling point.

Absolutely. It's a chicken and egg issue though - if nobody buys the thing because there's a perception of there being no apps, nobody will write apps.
