• For conditional trades, the league would propose solutions. The teams would have seven days to either reform the deal on terms acceptable to both, or accept the NHL’s idea.

I think what will come out of this is the Flames will receive a compensatory 5th or 6th while the Oilers will get to keep their pick.
I could live with that.

I would gladly take that. I have my doubts that Neal would have gotten those 2 goals. Lucic was playing way better down the stretch. I also believe there was as much chance as him getting 4 goals to Neals 2 to nix the conditional pick.

No way. I want a third from the NHL. Even if it’s the last pick of the round. Oilers can keep their third as long as we get the 94th pick.
5 or 6th round means a pick on the 160-200.

Chris Johnson looks at all the draft impacted trades
Quote:
Analysis: If we were to sum this one up in emoji form, it would get the “side eyes.” Neal sat on 19 goals (in 55 games) when the season was paused while Lucic had eight — totals that, if prorated, would meet the conditions requiring Edmonton to send a third-rounder to its biggest rival. But should those goal totals even be prorated? Taken at face value, Neal didn’t score the 21 goals needed to satisfy the first condition. I’m not sure there is a completely fair solution here, which is why a rare Battle of Alberta trade is arguably the murkiest involving conditional 2020 picks.

I think both teams settle for a later round pick. Seems like the fair middle ground.

I don't even care what happens, going forward. I love what Lucic has brought to this team.
Incidentally, it's always been funny to me how Edmonton (a "Blue Collar Town") has valued its skilled players, while Calgary (a "White Collar Town") has valued its grit players...Probably a social analysis in there somewhere...
In the meantime, I think Lucic has been great for the Flames. Yes, it's a sunk-cost salary-wise, but who cares? He's a heart and soul guy. Honest. And I value that.

I think Lucic would've been within 10 goals AND Neal would be short of 21. Neal was not playing when play was suspended because of injury and before that he was playing like he played in Calgary

He played the last 5 games the Oilers played.

Lucic has done nothing to hurt his image since the pandemic as well.
Jumped in to support/publicize arena workers, outed Giordano for his philanthropy, and did the Bruins stanley cup drunk up.
Good dude.

Easy mistake to make because he sure wasn't noticeable in the last 5 games he played for the Oilers.

Lucic just needs to forget his friends on former teams, against the Oilers, Kings and even Boston he played soft. he needs to unleash the beast against our rivals

Lucic was gradually getting better as the season went on IMO and was never really bad to begin with. The contract is horrible for a bottom 6 player, but if money wasn't an issue, I don't think too many people would disagree that he adds to the team overall.
I don't think he will ever be a 15 goal, 35 point player again. He always struck me as the type of player that had his stats padded because he played on talented lines and his regression was pretty predictable. That is why so many people hated the contract to begin with.
Nearly every team has a contract that they hate though. At least ours is for a guy that works hard, has a positive attitude, and seems to have the respect of his team mates.

If there are compliance buyouts (which I think is likely) I bet neither of these guys ever play for the Flames/Oilers again
All this debate for nothing lol
