Markstrom is gone if he really is on record saying that, how stupid - let’s get in your goaltenders heads with what if scenarios on a possible trade when you are 8-10 points out and just unloaded 2 of your top 4 lol!!

They won’t get more for Markstrom than right now, so no trade would coincide with their thoughts of “making it” this year.

I think some reporters try to draw a line between certain things and an assumption that Edwards is influencing some of this.
But it just doesn't jive that Edwards would allow the trading off of so many good players, and think that somehow this is still a good team, and therefore they should hang on to Markstrom.
Now if I was to guess, I do think that he will demand an accelerated re-build and may not appreciate that it's not going to be a 2-3 year thing.
But do I believe he is directing the team to not trade Markstrom now to try and win now still. No I don't.

Listening to him, I felt Dreger was doing a fair amount of supposing and guessing vs knowing.
I can see the ownership/management rationale to publicly be optimistic. If you say “we think we can win”, you add more interest/excitement and may get a few more people out to the game. If you say “we’re packing it in” then who is going to buy a ticket? That makes sense to me. As a leader you need to convey optimism and hope to your employees and your constituents to get results. I don’t believe The Flames are in the same financial position or marketing position as The Rangers and can take out a full page in the newspaper and say “we’re going to suck now to be better soon” without it hurting.
