The recent picks from a Flames draft that many seem to like have that new toy thing for sure ... have to see where they are in a year etc.
Jake Boltman
Daniil Chechelev
Ryan Francis
Rory Kerins
Yan Kuznetsov
Illay Solovyov
But those players aside Calgary has another four guys that have a skill set that makes them damn interesting.
Johannes Kinnvall
Jeremie Poirier
Dmitri Zavagorodny
Tyler Parsons
And then yet another group that is developing pretty well since being taken/acquired ...
Illya Nikolayev
Josh Nodler
Adam Ruzicka
Carl-Johan Lerby
This looks like one of those years where we look back in a few and the guy ranked 13th to 15th is on the team.

I find that I am having the opposite of recency bias this year. So many of the prospects that were already in the system have increased or justified their draft selection (or UFA signing). Usually the shine wears off many, of not most of them after a year or two.
Nothing against any players drafted this year, but I just see a whole lot of mystery boxes in comparison. Guys like Kerins and Francis are especially hard to peg. On paper they look like they could be steals, similar to Mangiapane.

Voted for Kinnvall, but most likely Yelesin is the closest to become NHLer. I hope one of or both Yelesin and Nikita Nesterov become full time NHL players and mentor to help our younger Russians to become really impact players to our team.

Because I don't think he will ever be an NHL regular. Hope I am wrong of course.
NHL-ready is only useful if there is some actual upside and a chance to be more than a replacement player. Robinson is NHL-ready (more so than Gawdin), but he will never be anything more than he is (a tweener/replacement player) so I don't see any reason to vote for him.
This is a PROSPECT list.

Why does Gawdin's upside have to be low?
His development arc in junior almost exactly mirrors Tyler Johnson.
Johnson had a better year 1 in the AHL, but they had very similar results in their second AHL season. (Johnson 1.05 PPG, Gawdin 0.90 PPG)

Think your being a little hard on a 200ft center who was almost point per game in the A and was ranked 8th on prospect list.
Right where he should be, Maybe could have been higher if anything.

Chechelev. Nobody else is doing anything as impressive as putting up sub-1.00 GAAs in men’s leagues.

Wolf gets a some well deserved love, but Chechelev's numbers are crazy. Only thing is I have no idea where the Russian "AHL equivalent" sits in comparison to the North American Leagues

And it's still a small sample size with Chechelev.
Great start to the year but he needs to keep it up, and if he does then he will be top 5 on next years list.

Poirier is terrible defensively - no hockey iq, weak skating, weak gap control.
Do you think they might try him up at forward?

Gotta disagree a bit with you there-by no means is Poirier a weak skater, he's a great skater with fantastic stickhandling ability. Great IQ too, he's just not as interested in playing defense as he is in putting up offense. He's admitted to his shortcomings, and says he's committed to improving them.

Why bother posting? It's clear you've never watched him play.
Poirier is far from a weak skater and he has excellent hockey IQ, albeit in the offensive zone.
