Default Network cable?

How do I find it? I need to remove the network cable from one computer and plug it into my laptop so I can access my office network. I believe it's grey, but that's all I know. What does it look like and where on the back of my computer can I find it amid the jumble of cables and stuff? (Pardon the dumb question, but I'm good at what I'm good at and computers...well, I tolerate them.)

The network cable end looks like the end of a phone cable, but wider.

Okay, I think I found it. (Great answer, BTW; wow, pics and everything.) Hah, I should have known - just look for the cable plugged into the wall, follow it to the computer, unhook and reconnect to the computer. Shoulda been obvious.

However, I hooked up the cable to my laptop and sent a document to my printer. Nothing printed. I didn't see an error message indicating a problem so I expected the doc to print, but it hasn't. Do I have to install a printer driver for my computer? Probably I do. Can I find that on-line somewhere? It's an IBM Workcentre M20i.

If the laptop doesn't know to look for the 'office network' or the printer it wont automatically print, even if it's the same cord going into your PC. You'll have to set up the network, and most likely the printer on the laptop as well.

If you've already done that, I have no idea.

Call your IT guy now before you mess around anymore. The more you try to make it work on your own, the more he'll be unimpressed with you.

Lol very true.

Yeah you can probably find drivers for the M20i online, but if it's a network printer there's no guarantee it's setup so it would automagically find the printer when you installed the driver.

There's the drivers, you probably want the one that says PCL6 Driver, WHQL Certified...

but I still agree with Buff, without knowing how things are setup you could make things worse rather than better so if you have an IT guy give them a call.

I have a call into an IT guy. I compared the print settings with those on another computer and they all seem to be the same as those on the laptop so I'm stymied here. I agree, I shouldn't do too much so I'll leave it for someone who knows this stuff better'n me, which wouldn't be too hard. Thanks for the advice thus far.

Problem is now fixed. I had a tech guy come in and he got me going. It was because I'm running Vista on the new computer and it was a problem with some communication with XP. I don't understand it all and that's a loose translation of some foreign language the tech guy was speaking. Thanks for the help, guys.
