I think if anyone has read the books they should have their HBO rights forcibly rescinded and not be allowed to watch the show so that 'show watchers' can now spoil things for 'book readers.'
It would serve those smug bastards right.

What if we do both, read the books and watch the show? Then what?

Threads aren't a finite resource so if someone wants to talk about leaked GoT spoilers making a thread for it is fine. Better than trying to nibble at the edges of it in this thread.

The freakin' Calgary Comic Expo just put out a tweet with a potential S7 spoiler in it. Not huge, but I've avoided everything up to this point. They could have worded the tweet vaguely and posted with the article link. Frak.

It might be better just to spoil myself, I don't see how it's going to be possible to avoid it.

I've been thinking the same thing but I'm going to try anyways.

Maybe HBO will release the season early due to the leaked spoilers? Yeah right.

They're more likely to just never release the season.

I find it funny that people who read the books had the decency for almost 20 years not to spoil things for other readers, or for TV watchers once the show came out. And for that they were called smug. But once the TV show came out, all those TV watchers felt the latest episode was free game and made no effort to avoid spoilers even in threads about the books.
Someone could make uncharitable observations about people who read books versus people who primarily watch TV. But that would be smug

Ya but that is a minority. Check out the hate these guys got in the book only thread for spoiling it for the rest of you.
As a person who reads and watches, and so gets to enjoy two different story lines, it is fun to watch the TV watchers turn smug and into the thing they proclaimed to hate.

It must have taken a lot of effort to not spoil anything during the vast majority of those 20 years where no one gave a crap.

Do those of us that read the books after watching the first season get put into a different group from the book readers from way back?

Believe it or not, the books were massive bestsellers before the TV series came out. In any geekish, literate part of the internet they were always a big subject of discussion. And it was always considered hugely ######y to give out spoilers. I never came across any in the 5-6 years it took me to read the first four books.
That all changed when the TV show came out, and the TV watchers behaved as though the latest episode was free game.
