We do that with Alberta property taxes. Pick you education system(but you only get one religion, the correct one!), your tax dollars go towards it. It's pretty ####ed up when you think about it rationally.

That is how the Catholic School system gets funded in ON.
Taxpayer can choose where their education dollars go - Catholic system or Public system. If you choose the Catholic system, they get your education tax dollars and you get to vote for the Catholic School Board trustee.

I think a non-Catholic student could attend the school and that there are non-Catholic teachers in the system, but I am not sure.

I presume this is the love and kindness I hear so much about from the church?

Anyone else watch the Vatican Girl documentary on Netflix? What a brutal and bizarre story. I cant believe i hadn't heard of this ongoing story before. I won't spoil it for those that haven't watched it but it worth a watch.

Cant even imagine all the skeletons in the Vatican's closet.

I was brought up a Catholic and attended Catholic school. While I have grown detest the Catholic Church and all its absurdity, I do think I got a good education albeit with about 18.33% of my time wasted in school learning about all that absurdity.

I grew up with my dad taking us to church, stopped going when I was around 13 but it's incredible what you retain with all the horse#### fairy tale stories. I'm always amused when I meet people who consider themselves religious and know nothing of what their book actually says. Usually the case with people who are raised to believe and are too lazy to use logic and rational thinking.

I was brought up Catholic and absolutely abhor everything about the church.

But the local Catholic K-9 is right down the street and I guess my kid is gonna go there strictly out of convenience LOL

I never cease to be amazed this stone-age #### is still being taught out there in the world, let alone people actually believe it. Like, I get it if you're uneducated and raised in a jungle or on an island or something somewhere, but to be raised in Calgary in a modern society and then bumble into church on Sunday and believe obvious hogwash is truly bizarre.

The more I think about it the more I lean towards the idea of god being a sex offender. It doesn't sound like he had consent to jizz inside Mary and get her pregnant, not to mention the obvious power imbalance. When the pigeon informed Mary of the impending assault it carried some serious "just let it happen" vibes.

Another wacky thing I've been hung up on lately is how Jesus made such a crazy sacrifice for our sins. Like, it wasn't that big of a sacrifice. He endured the standard-issue torture of the day that 10s or 100s of thousands of other people did, too. If anything, I'd say he checked out kind of early. The hard part of being a human is the endurance part of it. He left in his 30s when you're still basically in your prime...try hanging around until you get older and fata up your back because you had the audacity to sneeze. A sacrifice would have been sticking around a little longer and helping us out. IDK, maybe leave some permanent proof of your being three gods in one since that is basically the most hilarious part of the religion, anyway. Like a monument twice as tall as Mount Everest or something that floats 10' above the ground. Something that could not be replicated and was basically magic.

And he was guaranteed to go to heaven where rubes would be worshipping for eternity. Oh sounds tough. What a sacrifice...thanks so much. And we appreciate you leaving a bunch of vague, impossible-to-prove BS on your way out the door that has created untold conflicts for the last 2000 years. Great job, guy. We owe you one.

Luckily they can take it in the summer now, my son did it in 1-2 days and passed (which is all that matters).

He now has that free time in the school year for other classes.

"Sacrifice" would seem to indicate he had some sort of choice it it. I don't think the Romans were offering him up a choice. "Would you like to head back to the casino, or spend a few days up on this wood thing we built for you?"

I would just ask those that still go to Church to listen and pay attention to the readings.

Read along, if it helps and do that, paying close attention to it over a period of three months.

If you do that, you’ll surely see how contradictory, how sickeningly evil, and discriminatory what you are asked to believe, is.

If you pay attention to the text, and relay it in meaningful terms today, would you want to explain it to your children? Would you even want your children to understand it?

Rape
Murder
Genocide
Racism

It’s all there. And more in abundance.

I paid attention, and then I left.

Taxpayers now exposed to this travesty. Maybe a good time to stop supporting religious institutions with tax dollars? Maybe? Anyone?

A Vancouver Island woman who says she was sexually abused as a child by a former Nazi turned Catholic priest has settled her lawsuit against the church.

Father Gerhard Hartmann repeatedly sexually assaulted and fondled the victim over a period of three years at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Nanaimo, B.C., beginning in 1976, when she was just 10 years old, according to the notice of claim.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...686647?cmp=rss

Church did nazi that one coming *ducks*

Quote:
Hartmann, who died in 2015, came to Canada from Germany after the Second World War. He was a member of the Hitler Youth, S.P. said, and defended Hitler's bunker during the Soviet advance on Berlin.

According to S.P., that history was common knowledge in the church community.

"He was always proud of it," she said.
Quote:
Her lawyer, Robert Talach, urged anyone with a similar experience to speak to police or trusted people in their lives.

"I would implore people not to go to the diocese," he said. "For me, there is no track record of any diocese in the Catholic Church dealing with this effectively, and I would encourage people to go to secular resources."
I guess this needs to be repeated...do not trust the source of your abuse to fix things. They don't care.

Another former Catholic here who hates that church and its teachings. If she was alive my mother would tell me I’m going to hell.
