Unfortunately the 2 incidents on my mind are from family members!

Agreed, totally

I'd gladly live in any of the provinces I've visited. Canada is awesome, all of it

Watching the press conference, I do find it mildly amusing that everyone working at Goodwill in the background has masks on.

This whole BC hates Alberta thing is a totally fabricated victim complex. The reality is that a ton of British Columbians are transplanted Albertans, have relatives in Alberta, or don't really care much about Alberta. Frankly, it is bizarre to hear you mention it.
I think that you're over exaggerate what I've said. Hate is a crazy word to use. I said #### talk, which in my experience is as true as it is inconsequential.

Michaela is among the most useless individuals I have ever had the displeasure of meeting with. I am not sure at all what Smith's team could justify her "advising" about. Just naked corruption...

There is probably little to no advising going on and it also about making her whole for the 9 or so months of MLA income she has given up.

Uh, so with the speech from the throne, and now the sovereignty act introduced, if it's passed, do people realize that the premier/cabinet can effectively bypass the legislature and unilaterally impose legislation?

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmon...-act-1.6668175

Quote:
Alberta sovereignty act would give cabinet unilateral powers to change laws
Quote:
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's signature legislation would grant her cabinet new powers to bypass the legislative assembly and unilaterally amend provincial laws.

The measure is described in Bill 1, the Alberta Sovereignty within a United Canada Act, introduced Tuesday in the provincial legislature.
Quote:
On Sept. 6, the Smith campaign released an overview of how the act would work. However, it did not mention the wider scope of powers granted to cabinet.

Under existing rules, cabinet has the power to make and change regulations through orders in council. Giving the power to unilaterally change legislation is normally allowed during emergency situations.

In April 2020, the Kenney government gave itself that power under Bill 10, the Public Health Emergency Powers Amendment Act, to keep public services operating in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic
Quote:
Smith has directed her cabinet ministers to look for federal "intrusions" into provincial jurisdiction, past and future, and create special resolutions that will be introduced and debated in the spring 2023 legislative session.

MLAs would be given a free vote on the motions, which will describe the alleged infraction and how it hurts Alberta. Once passed, the resolutions become non-binding recommendations to cabinet.

The legislation would allow cabinet to direct provincial entities, including municipalities, municipal police forces, post-secondary institutions, school districts and regional health authorities not to enforce federal laws. Cabinet could also direct a minister to issue an order or directive.

The bill is silent on what happens if any organization refuses to follow cabinet's directives and continues to follow federal law.
Quote:
The bill also aims to protect the government and provincial entities from civil proceedings launched due to consequences that arise from the act.

I love it, because she’s completely lost her mind. I’m not even sure that a majority of “normal” conservatives can support this kind of lunacy. She’s done it. Special agent Smith is destroying her third Conservative Party! They said it couldn’t be done, but she’s proved them wrong.

Please take 5 minutes and write to your MLA to let them know this is an embarrassment, and to have some fortitude to stand up to this ridiculous farce that has already gone on way to long.

Don’t have one, Danielle didn’t think she could easily win my riding so it’s just going to be left vacant!

Hey businesses: come invest in a place where the government may compel you to violate a federal law and suffer the consequences. Is that business friendly or what?!
