Sure, but if they don't start now, 10 years from now if they don't, we would all be saying "why didn't they start sooner?" No matter what the Russian situation looks like, it's always a good time to be independent.

They are saying 11 years, but what will it actually be in reality?

That being said, should have started 11 years ago, but the next best time is today.

The energy will be sorely needed, but the political framing that this is a step to get off reliance on Russian gas doesn't stand up

The Russian situation is an excuse that will play well to the public whether it is germane to the end result or not. Go nuclear and go now!

Good news for the planet. Great news for the Amazon.
Worrying that he polled so high.

There have been reports of police doing voter suppression in the states where Lula was expected to get more votes. Real scary stuff from dictator Bolsonaro.

I will be surprised if Bolsonaro goes away quietly though.

I'm not sure what is says about me that I spent like 5 seconds wondering why a Brazilian election would matter significantly to Jeff Bezos' company

My kid actually asked me before if she can go to the Amazon Rain Forest one day. I said sure, and asked why. She started to go on about toys that you can only get on Amazon.

Bolsonaro? He had enough votes last time to win and Lulu is a flawed candidate. While his convictions were thrown out based on bias from the judge, he was never exonerated. Plus, his policies do conflict with many Brazilians who worry about recession.

It's not that surprising to me that many chose Bolsonaro again, even though he's a Brazilian Trump wannabe.

Talk about winning in a big way. This is significant not only because mass timber is basically a massive carbon trap, but also because BC is building out a massive ecosystem to support this industry.

Also, good ol' USA. What a disaster.

Quote:
More mass-timber wooden buildings have been built in B.C. than in almost the entire United States. A total of 307 of the environmentally friendly, laminated wooden buildings have been constructed in B.C., compared to 356 in all of the U.S.

And, according to the Vancouver Sun, many more mass-timber structures, some of them high-rises, are on the way for this province from its large forest industry, in part because of a three-year-old B.C. government initiative.

“For us in the government, it’s a triple-word score,” joked Ravi Kahlon, B.C.’s minister of jobs, economic recovery and innovation.

The government’s 2019 mass-timber action plan, he said, “supports B.C. jobs. But it also supports B.C. innovation. And it supports a more sustainable, clean environment.”

Wooden structures made of cross-laminated timber — which produce less carbon emissions than conventional concrete-and-steel buildings — are increasingly cited by politicians and environmentalists as a key to combatting climate change.

Since opening in 1970 this most likely will be the first year that Ottawa's Rideau Canal skateway will not be able to open because of no ice, City remains hopeful but this is the time of year it usually starts to melt.

I recently read “The ends of the world “ by Peter Bannen. The world may well survive but we as a species deserve decimation.

Is there no ice, or just not thick enough to be safe?

There almost enough ice but they want 30 cm before allowing skating.

This is more weather than climate - but here in London we are forecast to hit 14 degrees Wednesday. Old record temp was 9.4 degrees in 1949 and average high temp is 0 degrees. Basically at 7-14 degrees until Friday.
