Fastball-slider combo. Could be an ideal set up guy for Yates in the bullpen. Or simply just take the closer job from Yates?

With his stuff, I have no doubt he could be a dominant closer, and probably right now too.

They will keep him coming along as a starter though, and they should. Way more valuable in the long run if he becomes an effective starter.

Besides, Romano looks like he'll be the set up guy for now, and possibly a dominant closer in the near future.

They’re not putting Manoah into the bullpen. No doubt he could do a good job there but the number of relievers who have changed to starters is much more than it used to be. It would be a massive waste of development and potential putting him in a role where he doesn’t need to develop his pitches to succeed. Relievers can do just fine with a 2 pitch repertoire. I think with some more development he could be a solid number 2 starter.

I’m a well known opponent of Montoyo the coach, so can’t fully understand the decision to exercise the option on him, but the Jays did it. Perhaps another team would look at him so the Jays bit, but meh. Very questionable moves at times over the years. Very likeable individual but as a manager, meh.

Good lord.

As KFF said above, the Jays fielded pretty much an opening day roster today and are in the 6th inning with 13 runs and 17 hits so far.

Vladdy is 4 for 4 and is batting over .500 this spring so far.

The quality of competition has a lot to say about this but I am also very excited to see what the Jays do this season.

This is the most excited I have been for a season since 2015.

Sadly I've done that. The sneeze just made it worse.

Was just coming to post that KFF.

Good return for Thornton.

Ray also had another strong outing. Gave up a dinger in his last inning, but pitched 5.1 innings, threw 73 pitches, 53 for strikes, 4 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk and 7 K's. Hitting 97-98mph on the stadium gun.

How about Vlad Jr? Spring training, but it’s definitely not a bad sign that he’s hitting close to .600.
