Is it just me or is it painfully obvious they should swap Bo and Semien?

Really have to question the decision making here, their best SS is at 2B, their best 3B is at 1B, their best 1B is at DH.
It's time to admit that Bo isn't a SS, Biggio isn't a 3B.

I had to check...my eyes must be deceiving me:
Avg. 0.54; OPS-.227.
Jesus. How is he still playing games? How is he still getting a paycheck?

In a typical baseball world that we are all used to, absolutely. But in todays world of hyper-analytics, where management is armed with an almost infinite amount of data, teams are doing things that seem unconventional and, well, kind of annoying.
Look no further than the Cincinnati Reds:
Quote:
The Reds likely would not be conducting this experiment if shortstops were seeing opportunities like they were in, say, the 1980s. Playing Suarez at a premium position is not as wild as it seems. With fewer balls being put in play in the majors, defensive opportunities have been reduced. Some positions are losing more defensive work than others, including some of the most important positions on the field.
The number of fielding chances per nine innings for shortstops decreased 16.7% from 2005 to last season, from 4.67 chances per game to 3.89. Entering Tuesday, chances were down again, to 3.77 per game, or 19.3% off the 2005 mark.
The sum of putouts, assists, and errors at the position are down 28% compared to levels 40 years earlier.

Dolis is just so mercurial. Some days he can't find the strike zone and looks like he can't pitch. Others, he looks like he did tonight and he absolutely mows guys down.
I can't figure him out.

Dolis was locked in tonight.
Montoyo gets piled on a bit with his short leash with starters but his bullpen management tonight was fantastic.

Analytics or not.....no idea how they can justify keeping Bichette at short....he is actively hurting them with his defense or lack thereof.
SS is a tough position and certainly gives the opportunities to screw up more than any other which is why your SS has to be defensively above average. Bo is anything but.
Great win and Dolis closed nicely. Bullpen is absolutely lights out as a whole.
Fix the defense, hope the SP can be adequate and this club is a serious player for the post season.

Hey not advocating for Bo at SS, just saying that teams are doing crazy things right now that seem counter intuitive.

Hopefully Bo is just place holding this season until Correa signs as a free agent haha
Seager or Story would work too.
In a dream scenario you sign one of those guys, move Bo to 3rd, bring Semien back as the 2B, strap Biggio, Jansen and Tellez together, shoot them out of a cannon, and start filling up the outfield with converted middle infielders like Martin, Groshans, Orelvis, Hiraldo, etc, etc

Every season there seems to be a signing that I am absolutely wrong about.
Seems to be Matz this year.

They’re not doing this because of analytics. They’re doing it because Bo has said on multiple times he’s a shortstop and wants to keep playing there. This is about not pissing off your young superstar and poisoning them relationship with him. Bo is only going to move right now if he completely fails or if he suggests it himself. And his numbers show while he’s not great he’s not awful either. It’s more mental right now than physical.
I also wonder why would you want to move him to third and Semien back to SS. Sure that’s good for SS but has Bo ever shown he can play 3b either? And no they’re not moving Vlad back. We don’t want Tellez as an every day player.

Unreal how bad Jansen is at the plate. He was supposed to be an offensive catcher with questionable defense but he's become almost the complete opposite of that.
Biggio is also a huge disappointment at the plate.
Luckily the next wave of prospects likely pushes guys like that right out of the organization.

Damn do I love Jansen and want to see him succeed, but his PAs have been really uncompetitive.
Biggio I am not too worried about, he is struggling on both sides of the field for sure. I remember July-ish his first season he was struggling even more, his wRC+ was in the 20s, right now its in the 70s, he will get his hits. His BABIP is .179, with a career mark around .300, so he has been unlucky as well.

Outside of the homerun, he was locked in again. Healthy 1-2 punch with him and Ryu. Hopefully Ray, Stripling, and even Pearson can fill out a rotation that hasn't been healthy all year.
This team...I see the potential. It's just not firing yet, but when it does...look out.
BTW, Vladdy still hitting .381 and an OPS of 1.147
My god.

In fact doing a deeper dive, Semien, Gurriel and Jansen's BABIPs are all well below their historical averages. I sense this team is rounding the corner in terms of its offensive production as that unluckiness will even out.
