Yet Hamilton is the one scoring in all these important games.
I'm not saying Hamilton > Gio, but Hamilton is elite.
Also, I don't think it's a particularly strong argument to say "There's a reason why Gio is our captain" when our team has motivation/leadership issues. Gio shares a huge blame in the struggles that face this team.

That's not true...
Forsberg was considered as much of a sure thing as a draft pick could be. There was not much doubt he was going to be a star.

Ok, but even under different circumstances Dougie is never named captain over a player like Gio. Dougie has crazy amounts of skill but he sure as #### doesn't have much intensity in his game.

I agree that Dougie is elite. And that he is superior in the offensive zone over Giordano, no question. I disagree that our leadership is in question and that somehow this teams motivation problems lie at Gio's feet.

In my opinion itnis Gio by a fair margin. Obviously Gio is a decade older so Dougie should take the throne at some point in the next 1-3 years.
When it comes to defensive play Gio is so far beyond Dougie. I really think Gio makes Dougie look better. I would be interested in an experiment of swapping Hamonic and Hamilton. Let’s see if Dougie can elevate Brodie’s game.
I would suspect Gio-Hamonic would be considered one of the best pairs in the league. Gio-Hamilton were called the best pod the last 2 years. The years before that it was Gio-Brodie.
Gio plays hard all the time and plays all situations. Dougie does appear to float at times and rarely is on the PK.

A star, sure. But better than Lindros? I don't think anyone could have predicted that. Lindros was literally "The Next One" and supposed to be on the Lemieux/Gretzky/Orr level.

Lindros was looking pretty damn good, until his chin started going steady with Scott Stevens' elbow

Its easy to say in hindsight, but he went 6th in the draft.

To me, Tkachuk is as untouchable as any player on the roster.

Problem is it would mean no first rounder OR second rounder this year or next. You'd have to be pretty committed to the current core.

Not trading Tkachuk alone for Karlsson

The argument wasn't that he'd be better than Lindros but that he would be as good as he was.

Radio mouth-breathers here in Edmonton think that the Oilers are frontrunners to get Karlsson. And yes, their reasoning for this basically boiled down to "but McDavid!"

Is their reasoning that they plan to trade McDavid for Karlsson?

I mean, there's been talk of a return from Tampa that includes Brayden Point. That's equivalent to Tkachuk as far as I'm concerned. That may be the price. If so, sounds like no one wants to pay it.

Edmonton will tell you this could probably be done for Maroon, Letestu, and Matt Benning, who is a solid top-2 defenseman on the verge of a Ray Bourque-like reckoning.

What would the package from Edmonton realistically be? I’d assume Draisailt would have to be in the package for cap reasons.
