You're 100% correct, smiggy. This thread is intended to counteract my own knee-jerk reactions in the Stone thread as well as some others I've witnessed.

Like the one in the post directly above this one.

I'm really happy to see the Flames stayed disciplined and did not go above the price they were willing to pay. This was a very successful deadline.

Asked Johnny Gaudreau earlier how he’d spend his #NHLTradeDeadline day. His response: “Honestly I just wanna eat some Chipotle.” 🤗😂

He did. 1M less than the 10.5 Ottawa was reportedly going to give him.

If he held out to free agency I bet he would have got 10M (but not for 8 years)

I'm fine with the 9.5. Cap is going up, and then perhaps significantly when Seattle laces them up.

I don't like the 8 years. Although I would way rather have Stone at 9.5 X 8 than Neal at 5 X 5.5. The Neal contract albatross is likely the primary reason we couldn't pony up the asking price.

When did Chipotle add a ham and cheese sandwich?

I have a feeling Johnny could hook up a ham and cheese burrito for himself.

Take a second to absorb it and analyze it rather than getting all keyboard warrior and venting to the internet like it's your therapist.
If every one took that approach no forum anywhere would be much fun.

Life's too short to care what comments on the internet make your anonymous make-believe persona look like, never mind your real life self.

I've found a lot of peace and fun in saying what I like and not putting judgement or labels on others for doing the same. Particularly when it comes to discussing a game on a fan forum. Tomorrow, next week, nobody will remember. Who cares?

If I ran into Scorp on the street, I'm not going to judge the real life person he is by his reactions to something on the internet.

I was kind of hoping they’d do nothing. The offseason is the time to make big moves. It lets you plan better and build chemistry.

And the Flames do need to start re-stocking the cupboard. Having some guys on rookie deals is a must in today’s NHL.

I’m very happy with what Treliving did today considering the costs. Have to remember that of all these teams that spent big assets today... most of them will be left with nothing to show for it in 3 months.

Plus for all the excitement around trade deadline day... I’m always more excited for the draft. The flames will be in a position to use their pick to hopefully add another blue chip prospect to the organization using their first round pick. I remember lots of us watching the draft last year wishing we had a pick to use in that first round... even calling for Brad to trade players and picks just for an opportunity to pick in the top 31.

Here’s hoping the flames make a historic run in the playoffs with the guys that got them to this point and then brad has to step up to the podium in June having to use their 31st overall pick.

If you don't like 8 years, you'll likely take yourself out of the running for players who are going to be UFA's, because that's the going term for premium players.

No team really likes them, but they do it our of necessity.

It certainly affects Vegas' long term prognosis, but it makes them a better team over the next 3-4 years.

I'm just glad Tre didn't bust the Flames' bank, the farm, and future potentials for one player that's not named McDavid!

Has it been confirmed that they asked Frolik to waive?

I'm always worried what that does to a player mentally.

Then you underrate Valimaki IMO. Flames see him as a future core player. He's probably about as untouchable as anybody on the Flames. Top pairing upside. You don't trade young players like that. It's unclear whether he or Hanifin ends up the better player.

Some people apparently massively underrate Valimaki. I'm surprised anybody would be fine with trading him at all.

Probably the same as it was when he got his agent involved.

He doesn't have a full NTC. Likely that when his agent made a bunch of noise, the 10-team no trade list was provided by Frolik's agent.

Normally, but don't forget Frolik went public with his disappointment on his usage. For that, he should have expected to be shopped.

Is anyone really surprised Treliving didn't mortgage our future to take a run? This is our first year contending and we have an amazing young group of forwards + 3 high end up and coming D.

This is how you build a perennial contender. Our rivals all are going all in and we are setting ourselves up to be the top dog in the west for years to come. Treliving is so shrewd.

Several teams did not spend what I would call big assets. SJ/Nash/Peg got value imo.
