RIP Mac's convenience stores
Say goodbye to Mac’s: Convenience store to be retired, rebranded as Circle K in May 2017
http://business.financialpost.com/ne...-k-in-may-2017
Another part of my childhood set to disappear. Sadly, The Circle K Major Midget Tournament and The Crack Circle K don't have the nearly the same appeal.

Booo, bad move Couche-Tard.
They should keep Mac's and bring back the Scottish cat logo while they're at it.

Boo this man.
The Froster is an inferior product to the Slurpee.

This part of my childhood disappeared many years ago when my local "Red Rooster" became a "Mac's". So for me, those tears have already been shed.
<-- me, when I was 5.

Don't go there to often anymore, but it will be sad to see yet another childhood brand name disappear.
My favourite childhood memory of Mac's stores would have to be the old arcade machines they used to have. In Parkland before those condos got built right beside the community park, there was a strip mall there and Mac's was right on the corner. Street Fighter II turbo was there. It's there that I crafted my skills as a street fighter and learned how to do every move from the hadouken, to the dragon punch. From the thousand hand slap, to the sonic booms.
My Aunt & Uncle lived right across the street and me and my cousins would lie to my aunt and say we were going to the community park to skate at the skating rink. We would grab our skates, walk out the door. But instead, we would head straight to Mac's and spend all our allowance on SF2 turbo. The asian lady who managed it must have wondered why every weekend, these 3 young kids would walk in with skates and play SFII for hours on end.
Well one day she caught on. She watched us walk out her door and instead of going to the skating rink, she saw us walking to Mac's. As we were playing the game, the lady at the till came up to us and said ''your mom just called and she wants you to come home''. At first we were like wtf are you talking about. But then we realized, the jig was up.
We walked home, skates slung over our shoulders, my aunt greeted us on the porch. Basically we got our asses grounded for a month.
Man, I'm gonna miss that place.

Depends on your preference haha.
I like Froster because they have more crunch and don't melt as fast. But Slurpees have more flavour.

Not a branding expert by any means but seems weird. Mac's at least has some brand value in Canada. Circle K isn't something you see advertised on TV or has any real brand value here.
I guess there may be some savings in being able to use the same signs and stuff but I'd assume all that gets passed down to the franchise owner anyways.

Oh sweet, sweet vindication.
I argued with many people that the Macs logo used to be a cat but no one believed me.
Look at me now, Mom.
