I think you have to own the plane and not hire one to avoid it. We fly charter flights up to work and they have to follow the mandate of everyone being vaccinated.

Yeah it looks like that is correct except that you don't necessarily need to own the aircraft there just can't be any exchange of funds or services. I found this on a Transport Canada document:
Quote:
a flight is considered “commercial” if payment has been exchanged for transportation of persons or goods or the aircraft is being moved for service or repositioned for a subsequent commercial flight.
|
Quote:
Examples of non-commercial aircraft include those used for personal transportation or corporate/business aircraft, where there was no exchange of money for transportation.

But the problem for the NHL is they can't just outright cut players in normal situations like the NFL does. They need a valid breach of contract to do so.
It will most likely come down to whatever compromise they can get out of the NHLPA.

San Jose Sharks associate coach Rocky Thompson, who is unable to receive the COVID-19 vaccine due to an undisclosed medical reason, stepped down Friday.
"Under the new League protocols, I am not permitted to fulfill my duties on the Sharks coaching staff at this time," the Calgary native said in a statement. "I will have no further comment on this matter."
Under league rules, any person who goes within 12 feet of NHL players must be vaccinated for COVID-19.

What federal mandate? As I mentioned in covid forum I flew across the country 10 days ago taking 3 planes and wasn't asked once for proof of vaccination before boarding.

It’s not in effect yet. It’s been proposed by the liberals and would start after the election, in October I believe.

Bridgestone Arena announced today that effective Oct. 2, all guests aged 12 and older will be required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test administered by a healthcare professional within 72 hours prior to the event that includes their name and the date of the test to attend all Nashville Predators games and events held at the venue. The Predators, who have called Bridgestone Arena home since their inaugural season in 1998-99, are the 14th team in the National Hockey League planning to start the 2021-22 season in a venue with similar regulations focused on health and safety.

18 teams have not yet announced their covid policy for fans. We are 4 weeks out from start of the regular season; some teams might have a little more time depending on when their home opener is.
If vaccination is part of the attendance policy, fans would need minimum 5 weeks total - 3 weeks to get both shots plus 2 weeks to be considered fully vaccinated.
