Just cause your partner is more than well off doesn't mean you should surrender you identity, career, passion, no matter who you are. I mean sure, you can, but eventually even a boatload of money somewhere down the line ceases to fill the void of not working towards giving something you care about to the world. Seen my share of wealthy people close to me that aren't satisfied with life despite being able to go out and buy any material thing at any time.
Things and stuff are really similar to a high or buzz that numbs and distracts from the more important things in your mind/gut. Relationships, experiences, giving to others & personal accomplishments trump any fortune in the end.
If not, this exact scenario has happened thousands of times with players in the league before and the couples have made it work. Part of being a player.
This is true, although frankly I've seen as many player move choices based (at least in part) on spousal hometown than I have player hometown, at least for guys as young as Johnny. Mike Stone is an example. He'd bought a house here even before being traded, based on the fact his wife is from here and wanted to be close to family.
It's funny how no matter the thread, Johnny wanting to leave always comes up
Why would anyone be surprised he's engaged to a girl from his hometown? Most players are I'd bet
Other than Prongers wife wanting out of Edmonton, how often do players wives dictate which team a guy plays for?
Monahans fiances sister is Casey Cizikas wife, should we be concerned that Monahan is going to want to play for the Islanders now so the sisters can be close and he can play with his brother in law?

Most recently, Jacob Trouba managed to dictate his trade destination in large part on the basis of his wife's residency requirements for her medical degree.

How dare people come to a hockey forum to speculate wildly! The nerve of you hockey fans!
Congrats to Johnny, marriage will be good for his professional life. Just hold off on the kids for a few more seasons... life changes pretty rapidly when they come along.

Well there's always going to be speculation that aspiring actress Janet from L.A. had Gretzky pick the Kings. She was called Yoko Ono etc. But they deny it to this day. Latest story being that it was Walter who wanted him to choose L.A.
Nylander agreed to sign with Edmonton, only to have his wife veto the contract before the paperwork was done.
But behind the scenes, I'm sure there's a lot of times where a player's wife has more than a passing say in where they live. Or at least I very very very hope they have some form of say. Probably not a lot of times where it's "Demand a trade today" (that's pretty much reserved for Edmonton) but "let's at least consider offers from this team".

Didn't Ovi win the Cup finally after having his first kid?
