Yeah, that's nutbar.

The Carolina Hurricanes sold last year for $420 million.

How a poorly performing franchise with an unstable footing in the city is worth $1 billion is just fantasy.

If the Coyotes move, it'll be to Houston or Portland

To be clear they are not saying the team is worth $1 billion.

They are trying to sell a 49% stake in the team using a valuation that the team is worth $500 million.

In other words $245 million buys you 49% of the coyotes.

Also, the Coyotes' are on a year-to-year lease right now, so the team is portable with six months notice as they have to declare an intention to leave by December 31: https://www.azcentral.com/story/news...ena/963379001/.
maybe it was the wording in the article. I believe he put a valuation of the team at 500 million and is seeking to sell 49% at that value.

Is the arena in Phoenix not conducive to NHL hockey? Can't they just move back there, rather than move out of Glendale and into a totally different market? I seem to recall that Phoenix did 'ok' in supporting them.

Ok, yeah. That makes more sense. Still a tad optimistic, since I think the team only reaches that value if it is relocatable.

He's not wrong. There is no chance the NHL goes to a 17-14 alignment east-west. (17-15 when Seattle joins.)

Quebec City is going to have to wait for either the Hurricanes or Panthers to fail.

So what happens if Houston declines and Portland is not ready? Seattle is going expansion so where does Arizona go if the ownership wants out? You then get a situation like the Jets where they pretty much have to go to Quebec. Just move Detroit back to the West.

The only way a team comes to Houston is if it is owned by current Rockets owner. He controls the arena. It also seems widely known he would like an NHL team.

There isn't a time limit on this. The team doesn't have to move in a month or it becomes a pumpkin. They've been losing money for years. The NHL is insanely patient and would wait this out / prop this up until a buyer became available in one of the markets they prefer.

Also worth noting that the NHL board does not seem to be fans of Quebecor media who were in on the QC bid. They would be a last resort choice to be sure.

Houston is openly talking about wanting a team. They aren't going to decline.

However, yes, in the event of a series of rather unlikely scenarios all comes to pass at the same time, the league may have no choice. But, like it or not, Quebec City isn't even in the conversation for the Coyotes unless you start to engage in increasingly exaggerated scenarios.

There's a reason why the NHL didn't take their expansion application seriously: they want a balanced league. And no, Detroit is not going back to the West.

The reason he's selling is to recoup his money that he borrowed to buy out the Ice Edge guys.. Who were all clowns for the most part. Get a wealthier single owner to fill in the other 49%

Of all the owners the Coyotes have had since they moved from Winnipeg, who among them was NOT a clown?

Yes, I am sure there are wealthy businessmen that will be banging down the doors to buy into a team that will bleed away their fortune. Just move them already.

LOL could you imagine CP owning a hockey team. We would fire the coach and GM at minimum 3 times in a season.
