Don't forget that Halls family lives in Ontario now and has for 13 years. Its not really "coming'' home as it was for Taveres.
I do see him going UFA though. Unless NJ really turns it around in the next 2 years. Sure they made the playoffs this year but a down year from Hall and they likely miss again.

Wouldn’t only make a JG trade if 1) he shows signs of not having any intention of signing and the Devils agree to take a two year Gaudreau for an extended Hall. Maybe we throw in a second if Gaudreau doesn’t re-sign in that given year.
I’m sure Gaudreau won’t leave the Flames if he knows it’s the best opportunity to win. So, we’ve got to do our best in making sure he doesn’t have second thoughts within these four years. Besides, we could even trade for Hall as a pending UFA if he wants out so badly in NJ.

Looking at it longterm, I still have a feeling once Johnny hits UFA, he's going to sign a massive contract with Philly or a team out in the East. I'm not opposed to signing Hall if he hits UFA for something like 9M per, and then in 4 years on Johnny's last year with the Flames, to trade him for picks / prospects if it looks like he won't be re-signing with the Flames.
Of course, 4 years is still a ways away, so lots can change from now till then. Plus, you would get 2 years with Hall and Gaudreau rekindle that All Star magic they had a couple years ago.

So Hall is going to the Leafs anyway. This is now a Moo point. Close thread. These aren't the droids we're looking for, move along, move along.

Sign him? I was thinking more along the lines of dumping him in a duffel bag and absconding with him in the trunk of a hastily acquired rental car.

If Jersey puts an 80M dollar contract in front of him I bet he signs it. He's had injuries before and waiting that year (plus getting the 8th year) is a lot of security. I think Tavares was more of an exception than a trend.

Doesn't check out. Edmonton sucks and he was all bitter about leaving.

He also signed his 6milx7y extension in Edmonton too, albeit as an RFA. If he wanted to win, he could have signed a shorter contract.

I wonder how long it took Jersey to teach him how to peel a banana?

Don’t forget too we just brought in an assistant coach who was just with him for his hart trophy season; it’s still a long shot hope at this point no doubt but there are a lot of things to consider as positives when thinking of the chances of him signing as a UFA here.
Pros
- Stick it to Edmonton
- Childhood team he cheered for
- Assistant coach from his hart season is here
- Calgary’s cap structure should be able to allow for him
- Potential that Flames have been contending by that time
- Highend talent he can join
- Lots of older contracts coming off the books (Brouwer, Stone, Frolik, Hamonic)
- Tradeable contracts if needed (Neal, Lindholm)
Cons
- Pressure to live up to expectation in a hard market
- Added pressure from the Oilers/Flames storyline/history
- LW is busy already (Gaudreau/Hall could slide to the off wing though)

It would take a pretty big family draw or some sort of negative impact from my current position to make me make that move.
Hall signing with the Flames sounds cool, but I don't see him leaving unless he's forced to via trade. Tavares being the exception.

Ya but I’m guessing he would rather live near friends and in his home town. Don’t really see the Devils doing much in the next 2 years.

I don't think this is a real factor. He will have spent four years in Jersey with the same teammates who would/could become close friends. Would he want to leave that for new teammates/friends to connect with old friends? I doubt it. Sure, it could happen, but four years is a long time to set down roots.

Not if we can find him a Calgary girl to get hitched to in those 4 years. Even hockey players are controlled by the wrong head when it comes to women.
