Is this the hockey equivalent of “if you love him so much why don’t you merry him”?

Usually when teams invest in a 3 year deal in a 31 year old they are not a ho hum bottom 6 forward. This is foolish. Bad term bad number on this deal if this info is accurate.
Lets get you in a room so you can tell Treliving yourself.

So,

With the money and position he plays. This is a replacement for Stajan. I can live with it.

This literally is Stajan again. In that Ryan will be the new Stajan. He's a much better than replacement level bottom 6 C. I'd have preferred two years but notwithstanding my aversion to giving term to depth players, if you're going to do it, this seems not terrible to me.

I guess I see the concern about the GM going and getting his new coach all his old toys, though.

Let me preface this by saying I like the player and think he will add to our team.

However....

When I hear "he left money on the table" from the media at this Time of year I know it's a statement from an agent who has been feeding said media person information.

In this case, I simply don't believe it. I do not believe there were other teams offering this duration of a contract for this much for this player.

Its important to view this deal in the context of the new salary cap. This deal 3 years ago would be atrocious. But today it's a league standard for a bottom six player who aren't RFAs
.

Maybe Derek will force Treliving to pick up his brother Bobby from Ottawa so Bobby can drive him around town.

It’s a good deal for decent bottom 6 player. Not sure why you guys are feeding the trolls.

Perron got 4 x 4 and Ryan got 3.125 x 3. Much rather have given perron 4x4.5-5

I think we overpaid and this contract will be a total dog in 3 seasons. Seems to be the norm with our club. Stajan, brouwer, now ryan

Perron went back to St. Louis with the Islander offering him the same. The Flames don't get an option to say "sure!" on every deal you see signed elsewhere.

Generally trolls are considered to be folks who do not like BT's moves and do not appreciate his wizardry. I personally think this is a decent contract if Ryan can produce around 0.4 PPG for the contract.

But some folks do not appreciate BT's efforts on UFA day. Mason Raymond, Jonas Hiller, Troy Brouwer, Michael Stone, quality UFA signings all and in most cases sorcery by BT.
