There was good effort on Saturday night, can it carry over into tonight's bash with the Ducks? We know one guy who's bringing the energy, and he'll burn whoever gets in his way. As some unfortunate sap is about to find out:
Bring the conversation, stats, and everything - cuz it's game on!
Go Flames

"3rd line" might play more than the second line depends on who is rolling...Coleman is likely on 2 when he gets up to speed though.
Don't take the Ducks lightly, they beat the Jets who I'm told by the media are contenders
Thrilled to be playing a non-Canadian team

I hope we just end up seeing Mangiapane - Dube - Coleman. Three absolute motors.

But Kylington should 120% be playing. What does this team have against a mobile defenseman whos been a top 2 or 3 performer since the start of camp? He's head and shoulders faster than the rest of the group and we need that back there.
Entirely predictable however. Force the square peg until you start bleeding losses and have to look for answers elsewhere.
|
I'm not saying he should never play but his good games in camp were against less than stellar rosters. When we started to see NHL rosters he started to struggle a bit. He will get games soon though IMO.

Kylington got back, but I think that was the reason he got stapled to the bench.

I think that's right, now that you mention it.
Does feel like a short leash though as he was not the only one on the back end making mistakes. And then on the other side he appeared to be doing a lot positive things too. On balance I actually liked what he brought in his limited minutes.
Now the projected line-up for tonight is out and it does look like he's the odd man out.
I certainly see both sides of this argument. But if the coach's are asking for something that he's not consistently doing, then I can certainly understand why he's sitting tonight. I suspect we'll see a lot of rotation in that bottom pairing and I'm sure he'll get another chance again soon.
Like Cali said - it's about risk management. If he can lower the risk while utilizing his skill set within the system, he could be an important player for this team this year. I hope he gets another chance very soon.

Initially a bit surprised to see Coleman on the third line, but after thinking about it.....
He hasn't played a lot in games through camp, so I can kind of see why they would ease him in to it. Plus, the Monahan line was buzzing all night, even though Monahan faded a bit as the game went on. I don't have a problem keeping that group together for another game. Plus Backlund was largely MIA in Edmonton. Maybe giving him Coleman on the wing can help to get that line going more than they were. If it works, they might be closer to a 2A and 2B in terms of ice time. Plus it gives an option to shuffle lines if the Monahan group isn't going like they need to.
I don't mind it at all. Really excited to see him in the lineup.

This is exactly the kind of crap that Flames management does that ruined Bennett here. They have learned nothing and are repeating the process with Kylington. Stifle and neuter natural abilities rather then nurture them and integrate them because they must conform to the plan whatever that is.

Wonder if Florida is licking their chops for another Calgary skilled player castoff.

Kylington makes one mistake - benched then scratched.
Zadorov makes continual defensive mistakes - 2nd pair.

This is where the argument falls apart for me. Do you feel that Treliving is bossing Sutter around and telling him what to do in regards to Kylington? I certainly don't think so.
I think more likely Kylington is doing something that makes the coaches feel like he can't be trusted. 3 coaches now and the current one is known for getting the most out of Dmen and they have all come to a similar conclusion.
I would love for him to excel for the Flames but something isn't clicking there and I really don't think the team has a blanket "be big meanies to Oliver" mandate. I'm sure he will get games this year and hopefully whatever is happening behind the scenes gets squared away and he becomes a staple on the blue line.

Yeah they really botched the development of
Monahan, Gaudreau, Mangiapane, Dube, Valimaki, Andersson, etc
But hey....management can do no right at all.

Zadorov’s passing is dreadful
It literally ruins a “shutdown pair” if one guy can’t move the puck out of the defensive zone. Doesn’t matter if you win a physical battle for the puck if it ends up back on the opponents stick moments after

I'm just glad Kylington is back in the mix, that's interesting for me as I had Valimaki as the bigger issue to keep an eye on.
So now whatever path gets Kylington to being a serviceable third pairing guy that can move the puck I'm down for.
Is that more ice time and patience?
Or is that a firm grasp on what he's allowed and not allowed to do and consequences?
Hopefully it works out.
